Bethesda planning new Elder Scrolls game for 2010
With Fallout 3 barely on the shelves there’s already a tiny bit of news about Bethesda’s next game, a new installment in the Elder Scrolls series. Although it’s still far away and most of you are enjoying Fallout 3 at the moment, it is nice to see Bethesda planning a new gem in this critically acclaimed series.
Paul Oughton, publishing executive for Bethesda, talked about their plans for upcoming titles and how they are planning to publish more big titles each year.
“At the moment we’ve got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there’s a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010,” said Oughton. “At the moment we’re not that interested in the Wii. We’re going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We’ll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles,” he said of the company’s publishing plans for the future.”
No additional information has been released yet, but to know it is potentially coming in a few years is good news for all you Elder Scrolls fans. With Oblivion still fresh in our minds as one of the best titles available in the early Xbox 360 days, with thousands of people still playing it today, Bethesda has a real challenge to excel above this already awesome title in the series.
Are you still playing with your knight in shining armor? Or starting to roam around in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.? Maybe you’re just really excited to hear about the announcement of a new Elder Scrolls game? Let us know in the comments below.

I’ll be getting this for sure. Oblivion was a superb RPG, much better than all that turn based nonsense.
Yes, it gave me 55 hours of goodness.
Although, I didn’t realize I could quick travel until about 30 hours in lol…
I quicktravel all the time and I’ve been in there for about 200 hours now. I guess your not much of a sidequester then
No, I’m not. I hate how I’m expected to do them -_-
lol i also spent about two hundred maybe even three hundred hours on this game, the best side quests where in the assasins guild =)
I didn’t really consider the guilds as side quests, because they were achievements =P
So yeah, I did those, the main quest, stairway to the top of the tower, all in 55 hours -_-
Takumi: I also had the most fun with the assassins guild
55 hours? man, if that’s all you got out of it, yer not doin’ it right! i got 250+ without touching knights of the nine and completing only the story of shivering isles.
before that i played through morrowind three times for a total of 300+ hours and never got bored; and i’m only ~6 hours into fallout 3, but i can tell it’s gonna be a long and excellent experience.
bethesda one of the rare few gaming companies whose titles are *always* top shelf, like blizzard, bioware, bungie… hey, is there a pattern there?
I did more than I should’ve… Hell, that 50 hours included abusing a glitch to build a staircase of paintbrushes to the very top of the tower!
I didn’t get the expansion, btw.
Well quess what i have a life!!!
…which consists of trolling other people from mommy’s computer when she’s off to make warm milk.
I have a very rich and varied life3, but I still managed to accrue about 180 hours gameplay in Oblivion. Roll on Elder Scrolls V.
Mmmmmm, warm milk.
Anyhow, i’ve done 160hrs worth of questing on Oblivion and i could easily do more. Ive just bought Fallout 3 but i have to say im more of a sword fighty type of person rather than guns hence i’m really looking forward to the new game.
One of the reason i got x360 was oblivion, its the only game i still play for more than a ear.
What can i say Amazing.
How much fun can you really have playing with an ear anyway?
I hope they pick a more interesting setting this time. Oblivion is a great game, of course, but it gets stale. It’s the ultimate generic fantasy setting. I’m hoping they go to another elven land or some such, as Morrowind’s settings were endlessly interesting.
Oblivion was awesome
I just hope the story will be interesting, because the most boring part of Oblivion was the story (**** gates!).
I’m not sure if im happy for another elder scroll game, or if im disappointed it will probley be another 4years minimum for another fallout game.
I know that kind of makes me sad about fallout because il have te current fallout fully completed in a month or so.
I loved Oblivion and must have lost a good couple of hundred hours playing it.
The only thing I didn’t like was the world beyond the Oblivion gates as I found it a little repetitive and not as interesting as the rest of the game.
Can’t wait to see what they do with the new game.
*drools*
can’t wait…..though I hope it doesn’t own me like Oblivion did.
Ah, more Elder Scrolls goodness! Coming 2010, Elder Scrolls: The quest for more money. In all seriousness, if it’s anything like Oblivion or F3, it’s well worth the wait.
Oblivion was a good and fun game. However, I didn’t manage to get to the end of the main quest yet as the oblivion gates were boring as hell. I actually liked the side quests a lot more! I hope the main will be fleshed out better next time, if it is, it’s gonna be not just good, but awesome!
oblivbion was tremendously fun and well thought out..but if i knew they had it for ps3 i would have got that cuz shit god of war 3 is on ps3 soon and also the FF series..but i advise you not to start the oblivion gates at lvl 27 YOU WILL GET OWND!!
