Mortal Kombat vs. DC uncensored in Europe

The Mature-rated Mortal Kombat series we all love for its gore, blood and over the top violence got itself teen-ified just recently and the Joker’s original fatality got cut from the game, only to be replaced by a more acceptable one. With MK vs. DC now Teen-rated, it has lost much of its appeal to many gamers. Luckily they decided to put it all back in the game for the European market.

In a recent interview with Videogamer, the game’s senior producer Han Solo Hans Lo stated:

“That’s partly true that the fatality has been edited. You know, for North America we have a Teen rating, and Teen really means 13 and above. 13 is pretty young, you have to admit. For Europe we have a 15, 16+ rating, so it’s a bit different.”

In the edited version of the Joker’s fatality, the loser walks off-screen before the bullet gets to him. Obviously the unedited version, where the Joker puts a cap in the poor loser’s head after toying with him with a fake gun, was way too mature for a T rating. You might wonder why breaking someone’s spine and punching a guy to death isn’t considered harmful to teens, which leaves me with only one question: Why so serious?

With the game uncensored for the European market, most of the die-hard fans from elsewhere will probably order it overseas. Are you one of those Mortal Kombat lovers or did you lose interest in the series a long time ago? Let us know in the comments below.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is scheduled for release on November 21, 2008.

I made that same point when they changed the names of the drugs in Fallout 3. Everyone said no big deal. Well, this is why it’s a big fuck deal. Once it begins, there is no stopping it. Bring on the kid friendly titles!

It’s so stupid. Just like François stated… The Joker’s fatality is hardly the worst thing in the game. And in Fallout it’s ok to blow a guys head off into a million pieces…. but don’t you dare use the word Morphine. Pathetic. I don’t want to get into the old debate… but with all the things they can show on TV during prime time on regular network channels it just makes no sense to me. Leave our games alone.

I think they should change it so the joker says “oh sorry mate” then they shake hands and become pen pals.

I was totally looking forward to this title until I heard they cut back on the violence. Now I probably won’t even give it a rental/play at all.

Then they have a tea party and play with their care bears!
WTF! This is mortal combat! How can you have a “T” rating in a mortal combat game?
The world is now out of balance and life as we know it will end!
