GTA IV DLC: Names, Dates and Juicy Details

The first batch of GTA IV Downloadable Content is coming. Soon. In an interview with USA Today, Vice President in charge of Creative Development for Rockstar Games Dan Houser gave a truckload of details on the long anticipated XBOX 360 exclusive DLC. This episode (as Rockstar is calling it) is titled The Lost and Damned, will offer not only a new character to play singleplayer campaign, but will also “Offer on entirely fresh way to explore Liberty City with new multiplayer modes, weapons, vehicles and a diverse soundtrack with additional music.” Hit the jump for the release date, screenshots and more details about GTA IV: The Lost and Damned.

For the time being, Niko Bellic’s story is still over. In the DLC the player will assume the role of Johnny Klebitz, a member of the biker gang “The Lost”, several of whom Niko killed interacted with throughout the course of the original storyline. Niko does make an appearance in the DLC episode, but does not play more than a bit part in the story. Houser had this to say about Johnny:

“Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background. I can’t go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City.”

So when exactly will you get your hands on this exclusive content? We know, you herdz late november, but Rockstar officially announced that we will see a release date of February 17th, 2009. About two-thirds of the 5 million copies sold of GTA IV were sold on the XBOX 360 console. Many have speculated this was due to the exclusive DLC agreement that Microsoft secured with Rockstar via a $50 Million check.

Speaking of price, that is yet to be determined for the DLC episode. Considering the hefty price M$ paid to secure the exclusivity of the DLC, you can assume it will be far from discount. Some have speculated that it will be in the range of 1600-2000 MS Points.

It doesn’t get much more irrelevant than GTAIV these days. Microsoft really fucked up by shelling out so much money for this DLC. Now it’s being delayed over 4 months? WOW, what a disaster. At this point you would need a vacuum to clean all the dust off my GTAIV disk, and I still wouldn’t be interested in DLC even if it were free. By February? Please….

You sound bitter. Why don’t you just sell the game or give it away. No one really cares to hear how unhappy you are about the new DLC.

I remember when the game was slated for release in November, then they moved it like 6 months later because they still needed to do work *ahem PS3 hardware was holding it up* but I’m glad they took the time because the game was well worth it to me.

So if they need till Feb to work out the kinks, I can wait, if anything I was actually wondering whatever happaned to the DLC we were promised.

tbh i dont care that u dont agree with outhouses point.. every one can express themselves…. personally better games r out now so yea a little bit too late for me
This is IMO if u dont like it keep it to yourself

I agree.
I finished GTA about 1 month after I got it and there hasn’t been much to get me to go back to it. The multiplayer is cack so theres not enough there. The DLC should really have came out about July/Aug. February is way too long.

Yea everyone can express themselves, and that means we can express the fact we don’t agree with outhouse. Stop being such a hypocrite.

What your basiccly saying is “I can express my opinion, but if you disagree, you can’t express yours”.

Well, I dunno, it’s still a GTA. I was waiting for a GTA game and GTA IV delivered. I wasn’t waiting for a damn miracle. And GTA games have always been the kind that I always seem to pick up every once in a while. Getting another story DEFINATELY is NOT bad. And at least IV had bikes, helicopters, nice cars (and a handling I eventually got to like alot, unlike Saints row 2) and a great looking city.

Not wanting another GTA story/game is just pure blasphemy :D

Oh well, you’re entitled to your opinion :) But I just think GTA series has always had that “something” in it.. and no other game, IMO, hasn’t reached the funfactor of a game like that. (open city, steal what you want, etc… Saints row 1 was ok, but Saints row 2 was a bit disappointing to my taste, for some reason.. I mean.. the city just seems filled with objects, not people or cars. And the cars handle like shit and it’s just too arcade-y…)

And not that GTA IV still has to be your favourite game when the new storything comes out.. At least I’m just glad there’s nothing else to play coz I’m pretty overwhelmed by games right now :O

But when it comes, I’ll certainly be GLAD to look into it :)

Oh yeah and when I said “at least IV had bikes, helicopters, nice cars” I wasn’t comparing it to another game. Other games have em aswell, but if IV didn’t have bikes or helicopters, or the city would of sucked, THEN I would of been really disappointed.

I did expect to buy properties and “get rich” in the story, since Roman was always talking about making it big, but it never quite happened. But still, it’s a GTA IV and I’ve had tons of fun playing it. Just because it could’ve been better doesn’t mean it isn’t good.

I agree, its still an awesome game. But Rockstar missed way too many opportunities. If it had the complexity of San Andreas with the graphics of GTA IV with or without multiplayer, it would have been a game to play over and over. Now, I reckon I’ll be lucky if I play it another once just to get that 30 hours achievement. There’s simply nothing left to do. Roll on the new content, maybe it’ll help GTA IV redeem itself.

Comment by ManoDestra on 2008-11-21 18:38:12 | Reply

I have to be one of the world’s biggest GTA fans, and although the latest installment is great, it is also disappointing in so many ways.

I will likely buy the content as I love the genre so much, but it had better be reasonably priced as its going to have to tempt me away from playing the far superior Saints Row 2 as well as Gears 2, COD:WAW, Fallout 3, the list goes on…

Bring the fun back with GTA V please.

Comment by Veritas on 2008-11-21 19:38:05 | Reply

Amen, brudda.

Was Johnny in the story mode? I seem to remember a biker with a shaved head in a couple of missions.

Comment by Sarcasm on 2008-11-24 05:18:19 | Reply

Yeeeeah, I thought he looked familiar.. First I was thinking about a guy from a loading screen or something, but now that I think about it, he looks like that guy who was helping you in Elizabeta’s missions, when the.. umm.. cokedeal went bad etc?

At least he looks like the same guy in the second screenshot.. don’t remember if his name was Johnny though.

Comment by Veritas on 2008-11-24 18:32:17 | Reply

Yeah, those ones. Hm, time for me to do some research.

Comment by Bryer on 2008-11-21 22:13:12 | Reply

Saints Row 2 superior??? LOL…. the amount of issues with that game are beyond a joke…… Don’t get me wrong GTA 4 has its fault too, but at least the traffic is varied and there is a chance to interact with various people without the Police thinking your being a wrong do-er.

The nice thing about SR2 is the option to buy businesses.

Comment by ManoDestra on 2008-11-22 12:38:08 | Reply

The graphics in GTA IV, although very realistic, are actually very grainy at times, particularly noticable when driving over the flyovers onto the freeway. SR2 is very crisp graphically, although a little more cartoony. But then GTA III was cartoony graphically and its still one of the greatest games of all time IMO.

The biggest difference for me is in the fun element. Yes, SR2 is glitchy, but I simply have more fun playing it. Particularly as it has what GTA IV sorely misses: co-op. If GTA IV had co-op, it would have had a greater possibility for fun and longevity.

The first island was fun in GTA IV, and the 2nd island certainly dazzled with it’s neon lights. But the 3rd island was really mundane by comparison and the story lost its drive mid way through.

Every mission in SR2 is great fun to play. There’s so many more activities in SR2 and you don’t get pestered by friends wanting to go see a show, drinking, etc. Getting calls from friends after I’d just accepted a mission was such a major pain in the ass. The game should restrict calls from friends when you’re on a mission. You shouldn’t be penalised for taking on a mission. The only thing in GTA IV after the story is a bit of racing, some deliveries, cop missions and that’s about it. There’s nothing that makes me want to play it any further. SR2 is great fun to play in co-op without even doing any mission/activity.

That’s why I see it as far superior. For me, I don’t mind the odd glitch in a game as long as its not debilatating to the fun of the game itself. SR2 is a bit more realistic in that if you drive over someone’s lawn and break their fence, they’ll chase you down. Cops in GTA IV turn a blind eye to this kind of thing.

Hahaha disregard that, I suck cocks

Comment by ManoDestra on 2008-11-22 12:42:27 | Reply

Oh, and there’s a greater variety of vehicles in SR2 as well, all drivable, including the airline jets similar to GTA:SA. There’s not one flyable plane in GTA IV. GTA:SA was the bench mark. If Rockstar had even just remade GTA:SA with HiDef graphics, I’d have been delighted. I was expecting that level of complexity to GTA IV, but they pared it down and it lost a lot of its appeal in the process.

You mean you get to do everything you did already, all over again, with a guy who looks different while different music is playing, WOW! Once again, PURE CRAP! Hey Microsoft, was this really worth 50 million dollars? I guess Sony could piss away millions on garbage to but instead they choose to create new and better things to play instead of wasting time and money on old crap no one cares about anymore. Hey Veritas you asshole, I’m pretty sure my spelling is ok but could you check my punctuation for me.

You misspelled ‘Too’.

Hmm, I wonder, what is it exactly that PS3 is spending millions on to create new and better things?

For future ref, H3 is considered old, people still play it. Pac-man is old but people still play it. It’s all subjective. I played Dead Rising a year after it came out and I loved the game, what point are you trying to make exactly with a game ‘being old.’

Achievement Unlocked - Who’s Sony Now? - Beat a Sony fan boy into submission while showing no mercy. 100G.

People that bitch that MS put up the 50mill you do realize they are currently making that back right? it was a 50mill LOAN, from what i read that would be paid back through proceeds of the game and the expansion packs. … so not bad at all exclusivity for loaning a company cash

Comment by zarbor on 2008-12-10 18:39:18 | Reply

You’re assuming they will make it back. Highly unlikely. I doubt there will be a 2nd DLC after this one flops.

Comment by Shit-on-zarbor on 2008-12-20 22:31:13 | Reply

What the fuck do you know about it? and who gives a fuck if Microsnot makes it back anyway?
it’s paperclip money to them.
So fuck off.
