Xbox360 Motion Sensing Controller

A motion sensing controller is now unfortunately finally a reality thanks to a company called PDP who will release the device sometime this fall for around $75. No official date has been given, but the wiimote-esque looking controller will ship as part of a package with a game called ‘Sqeeballs’ (I know what you’re thinking - keep it clean!) and it seems for the Xbox360 it will use two sensor bars which you attach to either side of your television set.

Xbox360 Motion Remote

As you can see from the image given above it is a wireless device with a D-Pad button configuration minus the left and right stick because all we need do is move it around. PDP the company behind the device state it is accurate to within 2 millimetres of movement and has a 3D ultrasonic transducer with a three axis accelerometer to detect motion which sounds pretty impressive, but it has not been made clear how or if it will work with other 360 game titles.

Can you see yourself waving it about in Gears of War or Call of Duty - what are your first impressions of such a device?

Okay now this is another blatant rip off from Nintendo’s Wii.

Obviously we know where the Avatars idea came from but in comparison, the 360 avatars look better.

I know what Microsoft is thinking, “We are contiunually being pummeled in sales by the Wii, we have to compete!”
Some other guy probably said “But we sell the most games of any system and have the largest Internet Multiplayer User base, we’re winning in software sales.”
And another guy smacked the second guy.

I will NOT be buying this, it’s my vote against encouraging more blatant ripoffs. I want to play great games on a great system, not play niche titles.

“finally a reality thanks to a company called PDP”

So rather than rant at Microsoft, try actually reading the article.

What? You think Microsoft didn’t endorse this? You think they didn’t throw money into Research and Developement? I’m sure there were other third party companies, this is the one that came out with the best design.

I sold my Wii. Put this thing out with a good bowling game and I’ll not have to buy another Wii at some point to make my wife happy.

Isn’t there some motion sensor camera coming out for the 360? I swear I saw something about it in my GameInformer magazine a few weeks back? It’s made by some indian company and it supposed to track all movement w/o making the gamer hold a controller…

Anyone have any clue what I’m talking about? (I don’t!)

Based in Yokneam, just south of the Israeli city of Haifa, 3DV has developed a 3D depth camera that apparently offers a greater degree of visual accuracy than the current Xbox Live Vision Camera and PlayStation 3 EyeToy. Targeting the application of the so-called ‘ZCam’ in video games on the 3DV Systems’ website suggests that if Microsoft’s $35 million attempt to acquire the company was successful, it would be utilised to create more successful ’social’ games on Xbox 360 that can compete with Wii.

I probably would be likely to buy this only if it works really well. My main usage would be driving games really unless it works with CoD! who knows :)

My first impression?

Gimmick - defined as:

An ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal.

I will never buy one.

que?
instead of leveraging your bigger library of games, or your superior online service or any of the original IP exclusives on the console, you elect to churn out non sense and garbage aimed at the fringe element of your demographics.

Stupid idea, stupid execution, and truthfully, you’re about 2 years too late MS.

Donkeys…..
