TV Shows to debut on UK Xbox Marketplace

An invitation card from Microsoft which has the header of Experience the Revolution with further information regarding an event taking place in London on May 28th has been found. Other information and further speculation regarding this event is below.

I wonder...

“Xbox is delighted to invite you to attend the announcement of a partnership sure to keep TV fans glued to XBOX LIVE!”

Due to this being a (Microsoft Confirmed) UK event with wording to suggest TV content coming to Xbox Live, it is assumed that the UK Marketplace will now have its own TV Show download area that the US Marketplace have had for quite some time. It is currently unknown who Microsoft has partnered with to deliver TV Content, but it could be likely that it is BT Vision as we reported information way back in 2007 that linked BT Vision to providing IPTV to UK consumers through the Xbox360 Console. Lets not forget that the backend of the BT Vision+ service is supplied by Microsoft, so streaming content through the console using the NXE Dashboard would not be by any means a difficult task to implement!

Maybe, just maybe this will now become a reality and one day who knows - movie streaming along the lines of Netflix might also be available for the UK folk.

Who wants to catch up on the Soaps inbetween playing your favourite game without having to leave the console?

Great! So when will this, along with the rest of Movie Marketplace, be available to Scandinavia and the rest of the EU? When will we get the Xbox Insider show, and 1 vs 100???

Its all about licensing dont blame microsoft.

Move.

I really hope this is something worthwhile. To be honest I also hope its not BT Vision which will end up being a pay to watch old catchups service. In an ideal world this would be the BBC iPlayer that PS3 and Wii have…

Jason, I absolutely agree.

I fear, however, that a ‘pay-to-watch-old-telly’ deal will have more financially for Microsoft than opening the gate to the (free to watch) iPlayer.

Yeah, hopefully we’ll know more by Thursday
