E3 09: Dante’s Inferno Protestors

Dante’s Inferno is an upcoming third-person action adventure video game to be published by Electronic Arts and developed by Visceral Games, but during the E3 09 Expo recently a group of protestors surrounded the outside entrance to hand out leaflets promoting the ‘We Are Saved Group’ who are on a crusade to stop the blasphemous glorification of hell and its minions as presented by Dante’s Inferno.

EA protestors

The leaflets and tacky website read the following:

Those who fall victim to the trappings of this VIRTUAL HELL game will not have to wait long until the find themselves in REAL ACTUAL HELL where they will not be given any weapons or power ups to protect themselves from fiery demons, razorblade babies, or spewing bodily fluids.

We say NO……we say inferNO……………..

Our High Score is in heaven…..and we hope you’ll join us on the leaderboard.

Despite wacky references and apparent written hatred for a game where the player controls Dante, (a veteran of the Crusades who must chase his beloved Beatrice and try to free her soul from Lucifer’s grasp whilst facing his own sins) all website links take you to the officical Dante’s Inferno website and an E3 09 Trailer of the game shown below.

One of the cults members, Cherry Adams had even been interviewed and commented:

“..they consider EA the ‘Electronic Antichrist’ and are protesting based on the game’s portrayal of hell. This disrespects ourselves, the Bible, the Christian belief”, she said. “We don’t need this right now in our society… Our youth today live in a fantasy world to begin with, and they don’t need any encouragement to follow in the sins that are laid out in the levels of hell.”

The website went live on the first day of E3, and the underlying parts of it seem to promote the game which could make you wonder if the whole thing was a deliberate publicity stunt. EA have not commented, but it all looks very suspicious to us.

What are your thoughts?

Lmao, wow. Not only does this show a complete lack of understanding of the game, but it shows a complete lack of understanding of their own belief and Biblical history.

I really don’t think this is a stunt, as Christian fundamentalists typically really are this stupid. Once again, way to go, fundies.

On second thought, though, the bottom link says “click here to give EA blah blah” and then links directly to the site, not to some sort of petition or contacts section. So, maybe it is a stunt.

It’s very odd LOL… the leaflets too were meant to have official box art images on the back. It’s a peculiar protest and considering the level of violence and stuff in other games wonder why a group would single out just 1 game.
