Up until the scale-down of 3D Realms, the company had spent the last 12 years working on ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ which was to be published by Take Two (otherwise known as 2K Games), who despite withdrawing funding of the project - they still retain all publishing rights to the game. ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ was to be the sequel to ‘Duke Nukem 3D’ and was officially announced in 1997.

Although it is unclear if this game will ever get released due to 3D realms cut backs, funding and publishing rights issues, a brief snippet of actual gameplay footage was captured from the Jace Hall Show - an online reality series about gaming by Jason Hall who is best known for being founder and Chief Executive Officer of Monolith Productions Inc.
