EA acknowledges gamertag switching problems
After we had reported on a user getting locked out of Electronic Arts gameservers on Xbox Live, we have now received official confirmation from the company that they are looking into the problem. If you register a gamertag on Live that was previously used by another gamer, EA servers think you are fraudulent and deny access. A special page has been created on EA’s customer support website addressing the problem.
Why am I unable to connect to EA games using my XBOX Live Gamertag? I can connect to other games using this Gamertag, but not EA games!
This will occur if you are using a Gamertag that was previously linked to another EA account. Most often, this occurs when someone creates a Gamertag and links it to an EA account, but then has their Gamertag deleted. The Gamertag then becomes available for another player to use, but is still linked to the EA account in the EA system. When this happens, the server looks to verify against the old EA account and fails. The most common errors recieved are:
- ‘An EA Server is not available at this time.’
- ‘The EA Servers are currently unavailable.’Although a more comprehensive solution is being looking into, you can get into the game immediately by creating a new Gamertag to link to your EA account. If the Gamertag is not already linked to an EA account, you will be able to link it and play without issue.
Creating an alternative Gamertag is ofcourse no solution (yay, start over with all achievements and gamerscore again!) but at least Xboxic got personal confirmation from the PR department that they are working on a structural solution.
