XBLA: Quake Arena Arcade First Screenshot

Pi Studios announced two years ago that Quake Arena Arcade was in development for the Xbox Live Arcade, whilst news on the upcoming title has been very slow over the last few years - today at least a new screenshot showing brand new levels has been revealed.

Quake Arena Arcade Level Select

Whilst the screenshot itself is not all that great, it does show that new levels have been designed as ‘Cliffside’ shown in the level select menu above was not featured in the original games.

Other interesting developments have included a new build of the game being sent to Microsoft recently, a gameplay video recorded for the ESRB (Ratings Board) and the game will feature 16 Player online battles from the original 40 maps from Arena and Team Arena!

No release date for Quake Arena Arcade has been announced, but maybe they are saving it for QuakeCon 2009 this August?

Another interesting fact for anyone who didn’t know is that Pi Studios designed the ‘Shi No Numa’ Zombie map in Call of Duty: World at War MP2.

Maybe it’s just my foggy memory, but I don’t recognize any of those maps from the original Q3A.
