Silverlight Advert reassurance from Microsoft
Following from our report that Silverlight is coming to the Xbox360 console as a medium for improved interactive advertising. Microsoft have reassured gamers that the advertising will enhance the Xbox Live experience rather than interfere with it.

Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) posted on his infamous blog:
I need to let you know that you don’t need to worry about a huge influx of ads across the dashboard. One of our core principles is to enhance, not interfere with the gaming experience, and we work directly with our partners to only deliver experiences that are relevant to the LIVE community. Silverlight will help make those ads a more organic part of the dashboard, like we’ve done with some of the NXE slots in the past. No one on the team wants to turn the dashboard into something that looks like like Shibuya Crossing. That’s just not good for anyone.
If anyone can come up with a logical reason why we should be impressed with more advertising on the dashboard - please share it with us below?

It was only a matter of time!!!
Surely if they are selling Ad-Space on our televisions then the price of the Xbox live service should be reduced???
You would have thought so…
Is it just ad’s that are to do with the marketplace and all that?!
Yes from what I can gather, plus silverlight is a bit like Flash Player too and is part of the new streaming system to provide content at different settings depending upon the gamers net connection
I don’t see what the problem is then, if its just ads for that, most of the people complaining are just morons from n4g though.
From reading the article more clearly they are adding no more ad slots for the dashboard, so that means there is not going to be an increase in ads they will just be improving the current ones.
If there is ads on the dash, I’m setting my account to not log into live automatically. I will only connect if and when and I want to play online. If they reduce the price of live or even make it free then fair enough but I don’t want to be bombarded with adverts.
