UK SKY Player Update [Updated]

If you are still signed in to the Xbox Dashboard waiting for the Launch Sky Player option on the Video Marketplace, well you are in for a bit of a wait! The brand new streaming live tv service with on-demand content and currently over 400 free movies available at the click of a button (if you are a current sky movies subscriber) - is well and truly fucked up broken right now!

The Sky Player on Xbox 360 service did successfully launch early this morning, it has subsequently been suspended due to an unforeseen technical issue.

With so much excitement and interest in the service, we’d much prefer to ensure that our customers enjoy the highest possible quality of service.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to our customers who have attempted to access the service today.

Sky Player engineers are hard at work to resolve the problem — we expect to have the full service available tomorrow.

The Sky Player and Xbox 360 teams

For anyone who managed to download the small application earlier today, then you may still be able to access the SKY Player by launching it from the Quick Launch option through the Guide Button.

For everyone else, the service is expected to resume fully tomorrow.

[UPDATE]

Microsoft using twitter have stated that the Sky Player is ‘Still’ experiencing technical difficulties and that Sky Engineers are working hard to resolve the issues.

Also an Xbox Dash Update has been rolled out today to include new Wifi Security Settings. This update does not bring Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm services to your consoles. That update is due November 27th 2009

It’s no wonder their coding was poor and they had to take it down… lousy Brits can’t even spell ‘apologize’ correctly!

LOL… you were joking right?

Well dude, I’m Swedish and I have to agree with August. Being a non-native speaker (and thus fairly… unbiased), I for one can say that UK English sounds really stiff and plain old. It’s time to move along, people - just like the US has done.

stiff and plain old!! it’s a language - not a cock..

LMAO, the US spelling of your so called “Apologize” is different to ours, we spell it “Apologise”, damn you US need to learn real English.

Lol nice one Jason, funny stuff your coming out with. I have to say our version of English is far more formal than US English.

I can’t tell if Augustus was trying to be an ironically obvious troll or really was just being an obvious troll.

And for the record, “Jack,” states (”you US”) can’t learn a language… the people of the states can learn one, though.

Just, y’know, since we’re talking about learning “real English”. :P

kid2007 that is a bit of an ignorant comment.
UK English is the original language.
US changed it just to be awkward.
We shouldn’t change it just cause the US did.

‘US changed it just to be awkward.’

I doubt that. It was a gradual process, the result of having millions more people in our melting pot than in yours.

At this point the answer is this: we’re the superior country, so ours is the correct spelling. BAM. Eat that with your teeth, Britain! ;)

Yeah, if you want awkward just look north to Scotland… instead of “I’m not” they contracted it to “I amn’t”. How’s THAT for awkward?

Veritas, thats not awkward…..its slang.
Just like geordie or scouse slang.
Slang isn’t changing the words in the dictionary.
I believe the different spelling of UK and US English came about when the US wrote their version of the dictionary depicted from the UK version, they struggled to work out the correct spelling so they made some of it up. Spelling mistakes that no one knew were there unless you were from the UK. I think they blagged it and the “superior” americans were far too “superior” to spot the simple mistakes.

I know it’s slang… I’m saying it’s awkward because it’s hard to say due to the “m” and “n” being right next to one another.

American English came about in the same way modern UK English did. Nobody over there still writes “shoppe” or “thou”. It’s just simple etymology… letters were dropped here and there out of convenience or mistake.

It’s like how the $ came about. It used to be “US,” but over time, as people wrote it in a messy/hasty way, it turned into $.

The reason: too many people tried to sign up at once.

So yeah spelling is fun, but yes the Sky player.
Am I the only one who feels a bit miffed about how hyped up this was, yet all it seemingly allows me to do is pay monthly to watch old episodes of Ross Kemp on Gangs?

Same here, the monthly fee for the Live Tv is £5 per month, but all the channels are shit! Not even Sky 1, 2 or 3 as Live!!!

The only good thing this has is the on-demand movies for those with Sky Movies and thats about it. Also the on-demand should have had the low/medium/high quality choices like Live Tv has.

I’m from Scotland and no one says “I amn’t”, they say “I amnae” or ” ‘amno” amn’t is used in the question “How amn’t I?” which means “Why am I not” - this is just slang though and every region in Britain has their own variety of slang. This type of language is not used in formal ways like typing.
