MS: Xbox360 has 5yrs of life left in it

Microsoft European Vice President Chris Lewis, has stated in a recent media interview that the Xbox 360 console has at least five years life left in it, and that Natal will push the machine to new heights when it’s launched, making 2010 the biggest year in the history of Xbox.

“From the beginning, Xbox has always had a very deliberate strategy to focus on core gamers and then expand the market,” said Lewis.

“Project Natal is meant to complement, not replace, the experiences on Xbox 360. We’ve reached new heights in creating a more natural and responsive gaming and entertainment experience for people of all interests and skill levels, whilst maintaining our commitment to deliver quality core games that consistently exceed expectations.”

“There is nothing like Project Natal available in entertainment and with us not even halfway through the 360 lifecycle, we’re confident that our 30 million owners will be as excited about this new way to play as we are,” he added

“2010 is set to be the biggest in Xbox history and a major year for the games industry, where we will witness a fundamentally change in the way we experience and share entertainment with each other.”

Peter Moore, Ex boss of Interactive Entertainment Division at Microsoft, confirmed in a separate interview that the production team from the Xbox 360 is working on the next Xbox, as they’re looking into what kind of CPUs will be available on the market in 2011-2012.

Project Natal will be officially launched later this year for the Xbox 360 as a stand-alone package and part of console bundles. The exact name for Natal and pricing details has not yet been revealed, but further information is expected at this years E3 10 event.

A new xbox in a couple of years would be awesome :D

5 more years of RRoD? Sigh. Waiting on mine right now :(

I can understand it though. They are likely making a lot of money off the current console, even with the repairs. Bring that cash in while you can. Most consoles have historically lost money per sale for the first 1-2 years.

I think there will be a new Xbox Console by Christmas 2012 and I would even go so far as to say Modern Warfare 3 will be it’s launch title. I dont think it will be called Xbox 720, or Xbox 3 - I dont think it will use Blu Ray, but some other form of high capacity media instead…

One thing’s for sure… I’d sell a kidney for it - whatever it’ll be, whenever it’ll be out - ITS MINE!!!

Christmas 2012? Gee, the world ends then.

Anyway, awesome. I can enjoy my Xbox for 5 more years before I buy a new one. One thing I don’t understand is that we’re in a day in age where the current hardware is the best hardware.

Microsoft has expressed interest in 100 gigabyte media tech that has the capability to reach into the terebytes; by the time xbox 360 is released alternative media will exist(if it is even included) Competitors rarely help each other out, especially multi billion dollar products. duhhhhhhhh
And hopefully a new 360 will come out in 2011 or 2012 at the latest; because it is outdated. We want better graphics! That’s what each new generation brings; a grand upgrade. The 360 is maxed out.

It is maxed out! The games look and play great but John is right. I think the biggest problem they have right now is the damn dvd drive!
You did read the article about lost planet 2 didn’t you?
I’m not saying the 360 is done but there really isn’t much more if any juice left to squeeze out of that system.

Nintendo will make the first move fer sure. At that point Microsoft and Sony won’t sit by and watch another Nintendo system flooding another holiday market fer long. You would think that Microsoft would be next. I fer one wouldn’t be suprised if Sony pulled a fast one and beat them out the gate next time around.

Yea the 360 is maxed out. I don’t own one, nor a PS3. But talking with gamer friends, even one who is a developer at a local dev house, He thinks the PS3 is completely future proof, where the 360 isn’t.(they own one of each at his house.)

ps3 is full HD with bluray, tones of disc space to add on, and can already handle full HD 3D games as is, whenever people start using it. Which I bet they will soon, since 3D is the new catch phrase for “High Tech.” the 360 has limits of DVD, the lack of full HD due to it, other then adding more compression. And can not handle 3D quite yet, at least from what I’m told.

Natal may be a big innovation, if it works as promised. and will give it new life…but with a new market, casual gamer. It will NOT give it new life for the hardcore gamers. Maybe for a month or two, but i bet the fad of it will die out soon. Same with the PS3 wand thingie.

Even if Hardcore 360 owners love Natal, they will start seeing the system as out dated within 2 years, at the most.

Just to throw in speculation, I can’t help but feel that Friday 11th November 2011 will be the time of a ‘major’ xbox hardware revision, could be viewed as a brand new system but they will go the compatability route that Nintendo have been doing particulally with their handheld systems. All in time for Gears 3 as well.
