Just Cause 2 dev: “Big plans” for DLC. Plus new video

The demo for Just Cause 2 has been out for a little while now, and so far it seems much fun is to be had from causing some creative havoc in Panau. The game isn’t out for another week yet, but already we are being told Avalanche Studios have ‘big plans’ for this when it comes to DLC, Maybe even some form of multiplayer somewhere down the line? More after the jump.

Lead designer at Avalanche Studios, Peter Johansson, has confirmed today that there will be lots of DLC for their upcoming free-roaming explosion-fest. Possibly even a hint at some form of multiplayer or co-op download at some point?

We’re going to have a lot of DLC….. but a game like Just Cause 2 can live pretty long because it’s not just playing through the story and being done with it – there’s the completion rating and playing with friends. I’m not sure what the plans are from Square’s side, but we are definitely going to do that for the game.

“Playing with friends”? Now it wouldn’t take a conspiracy theorist to look at that and think ‘co-op’, but who knows? It’s all guess work for the moment. With all the game time that Avalanche hopes people will be logging (Johansson says that 55 hours of play has given him about 60% completion), it is assumed there will be some form of online stat tracking system, something most games of the genre incorporate these days, though its doubtful we will know until we get our hands on the game next week.

Just Cause 2 is set to be released on March 23rd US and 26th for the EU. If you haven’t tried it yet, download the demo from the marketplace, go blow some shizzle up… Yo.

UPDATE: We’ve recently found a new video giving some tips on some ever more creative ways to make enemies fly and die, check it out!

I still haven’t downloaded the demo yet! I tried, but it cuts out and sticks at 48% - Rural Village Broadband - nothing quite like it! Anything over 400MB and it’s stuffed… but I’ll try again tonight - sounds fun!

Definitely keep trying Jason, I’ve been playing the hell out of the demo sense I downloaded it days ago on PSN, now don’t go flaming the crap out of me everybody this isn’t a testimonial for Sony it just happens to be what I have and I’m sure the game is similar on both systems although I heard that the PS version has the ability to record what you’ve done and upload the videos to youtube but I cant verify that as positive.

Anyways back on topic the game is an absolute blast, I love sand box open world games and this is definitely one of those games where you go ‘I wonder if I can do this’ and you do it and it works. They really seemed to think of almost everything, the graphics aren’t Crysis level jaw dropping but there very very good and they work well for the game specifically the explosions, my god the explosions are some of the best I’ve seen in a game, not only how they look but the sound is incredible, explosions in the distance have a very accurate far of sound.

They did a great job and the demo is well worth the download. The 30 minute timer is a bit of a pain but I hear there’s ways around that to. Anyway this is a definite purchase for me, I just have to find time for this and God of War 3, don’t know if I can but I’m gonna give it my best try.

Yes, that is an ability of the PS version, and the Xbox version does not contain that ability, but I’ve heard rumors of an Xbox Web Browser, so maybe one day.

It is a bitch, you have to be perfect with your double button presses. Ive had about a 80% success rate on attempts but its fustrating when it dosent work, not to mention if you do get it, you cannot die at all or its game over anyways.

Ooooops that wasnt the trick you where talking about, my bad.

Confident of their intrinsic qualities as the Swedes of Avalanche Studios have not dropped the case and began to work seriously to prepare a suite capable of erasing the mistakes of his elder brother while trying to take the gameplay a little further.
