Colin Mcrae’s Dirt 3 confirmed
It’s been a long while since we last heard anything new on Colin Mcrae’s Dirt front, but that all changes today, following Edge’s interview with Codemasters Studios vice president Gavin Cheshire in which the bigwig sheds light on the future of the beloved off-road racing franchise.
Though Codies VP gave very little concrete information, especially regarding time frames and platforms, he did flat-out confirm that a follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed Dirt 2 was in the works:
»Really, it’s all about letting the teams just innovate. There’s some great stuff coming from Birmingham that’s going into Dirt 3, and obviously you’ve seen Bodycount.«
To the relief of old-time Colin Mcrae fans who weren’t too happy about the franchise’s direction to a more Americanized (for the lack of a better word) version of off-road racing, Cheshire shared the following consideration about Dirt 3:
»I guess in today’s world, every day you’re dealing with people from all over the world. So it’s a British company and the last bastion of British publishing, and there is some pride in that, but it doesn’t take control of your life. It’s about the culture we’ve created and making the best games you can. Dirt 2: brilliant game but it’s all American accents, so maybe we’re a little over the top with those. Maybe we should fly the flag a bit more«
It doesn’t mean it’s going to be like old times, but it gives us a glimmer of hope for the franchise returning to the roots in that department.
