Game Room Achievements listed; whoring will ensue
Microsoft really, really want you to download and play the upcoming addition to the Xbox Live Arcade, the Xbox Live Game Room. Despite the potential of forcing gamers to re-purchase titles some may already own, a plan has been devised to off-set this by offering up to fifty six Achievements for the hassle, totalling a cool 1000 Gamerscore Points.
The Game Room was first announced at CES 10 earlier this year. Met with cynicism in some camps and delight in others, it will allow gamers to purchase old-skool games at a relatively cheap price, while also allowing a pay to play initiative should you not wish to purchase the full game. The only major set back being that games already purchased through the Marketplace are not compatible and essentially have to be purchased again.

Should that put some people off, Microsoft has offered the incentive of Achievements, as listed over on MGC. Anyone that loves to boost their Gamerscore with relative ease should be at home here, with several of the accolades appearing to be easy to achieve, particularly ones that offer reward just for the length of time played.
The Game Room launches this Wednesday with around thirty titles initially available. It remains to be seen whether people will take to it or not, but Achievements will definitely help sway anyone currently sitting on the fence. Has this persuaded you to get involved this Wednesday? Well, Microsoft had a great opportunity to show some appreciation for all those who have already invested so much in their network. They “could have” made Game Room so that visitors could play your games as long as they are in your game room for free. Which probably would have resulted in quite a big jump in sales of arcade games by encouraging folks to try before they buy so to speak. Kind of the shareware vision reborn on Xbox live. Instead we are getting yet another bill from Microsoft. It’s not that it’s not a great network or even that Game Room isn’t a great addition to XBox Live. It’s just that I think MS could have killed those birds and made their already cash strapped customer base a little happier in the process. Enough with the cash grab MS, how about you give a little back now? While we’re at it, how about making it so I can: send links to dashboard items to my friends, gift points, and download free games after buying X amount.
OR… you can use the Game Room as a social setting. No one is forcing you to buy ANYTHING.
