DICE Will Never Charge For Bad Company 2 DLC

DICE, the developers behind Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has revealed downloadable map packs for the game will always be free including future planned content coming to players in “generous” amounts!

DICE launched their ‘VIP 2′ map pack for free yesterday on the same day as Infinity Wards 1200 MS Points ‘Stimulus Package’ for Modern Warfare 2. It seems Bad Company 2 players experienced no gaming difficulities compared to the disruption on Modern Warfare 2 caused by both recent playlist and title updates.

DICE Senior Producer, Patrick Bach informed Xbox World 360:

“We don’t ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together,”

“We’re owned by EA but we’re still very much DICE.”

“DICE have ‘generous’ amounts of DLC planned for Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s future.”

All the available DLC for the game is only free to players who bought their game brand new, since the included VIP code in the box once redeemed is tied to one account only. This means the DLC is not available free to players who buy their games second-hand as they will need to pay for it at the cost shown on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

In March alone, the game has sold more than 2.3 Million units making it the best selling video game of the month.

Hopefully other developers take notice. Games that generate billion dollar revenue (you know who you are) should not be charging $15 for new maps.

If damnn EA can do this…the others can and if its a big boost to game sales then the others will have to. I would never dream EA would allow this.

This shows how much they want to topple Modern Warfare 2 ;). That’s the only reason why they are doing this, in my opinion.

Battlefield is just freakn’ Awesome. I havn’t had this kinda fun in a long time. Last night playing MW2 new maps I coun’t stop myself from thinking about playing BF2. It didn’t help that MW2 was swamped with little snot nosed brats and punk assed teenagers last night.(reminded me of Gears) I only wish more of my friends would get it. Come on people you can’t belive what your missing.

I keep getting tempted, but Medal of Honour is out soon made by the same people!! - and they’re aiming at making it bigger & better than MW2 & Bad Company 2 - I’m holding off for that later in the year

Even after seeing all the DLC there gonna drop on BF2 for free. Just think about how much more Bad Ass you’ll be in Medal of Honour with all that Battlefield 2 experience under your belt. Come on, you know you want to!!!

Why ‘hold out’? MoH is ages away, and BC2 is AMAZING!!! I need more people to play with… I can’t stop playing this game…

…I bought it today, although both VIP Map Packs are already on the disc!! I disagree that all the ‘new’ content is there all along and this really is to rip off those buying 2nd hand… but I bought it brand new and giving it a whirl later…

DAMN!!! Dice isn’t fuckin around. They just napalmed the crap out of Modern Warfare 2. “Yeah were giving away our maps for free, oh and by the way no one had any problems getting on and playing”, dems is fighten words.

Bwaha, take that, Activision.

I’m renting Bad Co 2 so I guess I’d have to purchase the map packs… argggg. oh well. I will only buy the maps if I end up buying the game.

Well the cost of both new map packs equal half of the game brand new… so if you buy the game 2nd hand, and then the map packs you would prob end up paying more than what it is worth new.

Thats the only reason I bought new, because every single map pack is priced 1200 points otherwise (I think)

Eh? Don’t you just purchase the VIP code if you have bought it second hand as a one off payment then you get what you would have had you bought it new?

I wouldn’t know, I bought it new, on the day of release, because if FUCKING ROCKS THE SOCKS OF ANY OTHER WAR GAME OUT THERE. And MW2 can suck a dick.

I convinced one of my mates who was a MW2 nut to buy BC2 and get playing with the rest of us. He did, but only had it for one day and took it back. We couldn’t understand and asked him what the problem was and he said he thought the online was very limited?!?!

Then we checked his stats online, he had played online for one hour and had killed three people but had been killed 42 times. So it wasn’t that it was limited, it’s that he was shit compared to how he was on that pile of turd MW2 and he couldn’t be Mr Billy Big Balls anymore.

Haha…well MW2 is for people who dont have time to think, and who hate stalking in bushes!

It is limited online I think compared to MW2, but it’s still a great game. The campaign is amazing.

The headline is pretty far off if you actually read the quote.

“We don’t ever WANT to charge for our MAPS”

What he didn’t say is that they won’t charge for maps, he left open the possibility EA might force them to. Also he said maps, not “DLC”, contrary to the headline.

Personally I think the statement is pretty meaningless at this point. The maps they released were not actually new in any sense, they’re just new game modes for the existing maps.

And if you look at DICE’s history, BF2 and BF2142 both had online only booster packs (DLC), that contained new official maps you had to pay for. They also contained other stuff like new weapons and vehicles.

I thought they were a great deal at $10 each, and I hope BFBC2 does something similar. But my point is it’s disingenuous of him to say they don’t want to charge for their maps. Believe me, they will once they make enough new ones to comprise an expansion.
