Activision Spend £1Million On Marketing MW2 DLC

Activision had budgeted a mega £1m to market the launch of the ‘Stimulus Package’ to Modern Warfare 2’s twenty-five-million unique players. The marketing campaign includes online advertising and TV commercials which will continue to run until May for the new content that was recently criticised for being over priced.

David Tyler, Activision’s Marketing director for UK and Ireland said:

“We are excited about the content of the Stimulus Package and our gamers are going to be blown away by the new maps.”

“Our partners are playing a crucial role in driving the Stimulus Package message out to consumers through their in-store activation.”

“Retailers are fully on board to ensure they secure their share of the commercial opportunity that is being created. The key behind all of this as usual, is having great content.”

The total sales of ‘Modern Warfare 2′ has passed more than $1bn worldwide, according to Activisions own internal estimates, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and worldwide mass appeal for the game. Sales figures for the ‘Stimulus Package’ which contains three new maps and two original ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ maps have not yet been announced. This is not surprising since the new maps was only released a few days ago, but in comparison to other Call of Duty games - ‘World at War: Map Pack One’ had 1m downloads in four days and ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack’ surpassed 1m in nine days.

With a game as popular as Modern Warfare 2 it will only be a matter of time before Activision make that all important 1m downloads announcement, but with many gamers criticising the content as over priced, could it beat the nine day record of its predessesor?

Xboxic will keep you posted.

They could just just not spent that million and sold the content at a reasonable price.
