Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction Collectors Edition has just received a $10 price drop from its original $80 tag in the US. The Collectors Edition includes an art book titled Fifth Freedom: The Art of Splinter Cell, a pair of decals, a prequel comic book, specially designed boxing and a possibly defective Splinter Cell branded USB drive.
Ubisoft reps informed GameSpot that a “random sampling” found many of the USB drives included with the Collectors Edition package to be faulty and stated that not all USB drives included in the package had problems, but it is unknown exactly how many are likely to be affected. The USB drive features bonus content that includes: game development videos, wallpaper, concept art and storyboards which could be unaccessible on faulty drives.
For those who are unable to access the bonus content, details on how to obtain it will be available on the games official Website on Thursday, April 15th. Ubisoft have made it clear that no other part of the Splinter Cell: Conviction CE is defective as this is only a USB drive issue.
It is worth noting that the UK Collectors Edition which is an entirely different content package is not affected (because it has no USB drive), but has also had a price drop of £10 to encourage more pre-orders.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction is released on April 13th in the US and April 16th in Europe.
