EA Officially Announces Bulletstorm
Just when we thought Epic Games game designer slash visionary Cliff Bleszinski couldn’t get more beaten to the punch prior to his appearance on tonight’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Electronic Arts strolls along and delivers one final blow to his thunder by officially announcing Bulletstorm, a brand new first-person shooter in partnership with Epic Games studio People Can Fly.
Players step into the boots of Grayson Hunt, a member of an elite band of mercenaries called Dead Echo who are sworn to protect a futuristic confederation. Alongside another Dead Echo member named Ishi Sato, Hunt is betrayed and exiled to the perilous far reaches of the galaxy by his commander. Hell-bent on getting off the godforsaken planet alive and getting even with the man responsible, the protagonists must battle countless mutants and “flesh eating” gangs in a deserted paradise.
Packing an “arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns,” players are tasked with mowing enemies down with style thanks to the game’s signature “kill with skill” gameplay which awards them for wreaking havoc in the most creative fashion possible. By performing these skillshots, players then accumulate points which they can spend on upgrading their character and unlocking new weapons.
Said Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps:
“Bulletstorm is the kind of game we love to make because it’s pure, unadulterated entertainment. People Can Fly has created a wildly fun first-person shooter that looks gorgeous running on the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology, and the skillshot system is a welcome addition to the genre. We can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to seeing Bulletstorm.”
Bulletstorm is set for release in 2011 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
