Activision and Bungie Sign 10 Year Contract

Bungie and Activision announced today that they have entered into an exclusive 10-year partnership to bring Bungie’s next big action game universe to market. Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices. Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The alliance will provide Bungie its first such partnership since splitting off from Microsoft in 2007, broadening its global reach by providing the resources and support to develop, distribute and release games worldwide on multiple platforms and devices.

Activision will broaden its portfolio with a new franchise from a proven studio, whose games have sold more than 25 million units worldwide. To date, Bungie’s Halo games have generated approximately $1.5 billion in revenues, according to The NPD Group, Charttrack and GfK. Activision expects this agreement to be accretive to its operating margins as of the release of the first game.

There is no word as to what this new franchise will be, but we can assume that it is already under development, and hopefully something might be revealed during this year’s E3. Could this agreement mean Bungie might be working on their first non-Microsoft console game?

OMG. Thank God Activision just acts as a publisher and nothing more.

Didn’t they learn anything from Infinity Ward?

Say hello to a new Bungie game every year…

They say it’s gonna be every two years.

Yeah bungie fits right in with activision! Heck theyve made the SAME game 3 ties now and still manage to get ppl to buy it lol! They will basically be COD just diffrent time period. Mark another game off my my list is gettin smaller by the day.

Whilst it wont be anything Halo related, it’ll still be exciting stuff… and probably their first ever PS3 game.

Bungie made Oni for the PS2.

There is speculation that Infinity Ward is on it’s last leg, and when the next map pack is released, Activision will close the studio.

Will be good to see them finally work on something other then Halo, which I’m sure they’ve been looking forward to doing, and good to see they will have the opportunity to go multiplat with it and increase their revenue.
