Celebrate Sonic’s 19th Birthday on Thursday

For those who can remember the very first release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991, time certainly has flown by, but with Sonic still lurking somewhere in the background on a different platform, or with a new generation of players who ensure his impact on the gaming world lives on!

The days before Spin-Dash…

Sonic is one of the world’s most famous game characters, Sega’s official mascot and considered the very reason for their success during the early 90’s. This Thursday, both SEGA and Microsoft celebrate 19 years of Sonic the Hedgehog by offering special Birthday discount pricing for one day only. All Sonic the Hedgehog games available for purchase on Xbox LIVE Arcade will be reduced from 400 MS Points to just 240 MS Points each!

If you’re a Sonic fan and have all the titles already, then unfortunately there is nothing new announced that you can purchase. This year, Sonic Adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Kinect enabled Sonic Free Riders are all upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade games still awaiting official release dates.

The first time I played it on the Genesis I was hooked. I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast as well.

The first time I played Sonic was on my SEGA Master System, so he was 8-bit, but still absolutely fantastic I was just instantly hooked! Then in Christmas 1991 my parents had bought me a SEGA Megadrive which had Sonic bundled with it - and I couldn’t believe the difference in graphics!

I do remember Sonic Twosday like it was yesterday too, was my most wanted game in the world - I was 12 and had taken the whole day off school to line up & buy it from WHSmith!!

Was so excited when I got it home, literally just buzzing - this thing had 2 player split-screen and was the best thing to happen since getting a Megadrive :)

I had most Sonic titles on the Megadrive, Saturn, Gameboy and Dreamcast…
