MS: First Person Shooter on Kinect Someday
Albert Penello, Senior Director of Global Marketing for the Xbox 360, has dropped hints in an interview with Industry Gamers that a first person shooter to take advantage of Kinect technology could be a possibility in the near future.
Quoted by Penello:
“The hardest part is really trying to make people understand the same group of people who built the stuff that they love now are working on this stuff, and it’s not about alienating, and it’s not about abandoning; it’s about expanding,” Penello explained.
“The first thing that comes to mind is the casual types of games, but I’d like to see what a first person shooter would be on Kinect someday,” the senior exec continued.
“We wanted to come out and make a statement that said, ‘We want to try and do something different than the Wii, different than wands and hands, something that’s magical, that takes away the abstraction’, and I want a bunch of new types of games created.”
Currently it is still no reassurance that Kinect will be used for anything else other than casual gamers, but it does at least show that the hardcore market is still playing on their minds.
What game’s franchise would you like to see use the Kinect device and how?

I’d like to know how we’re supposed to control a FPS using Kinect in the first place? How do we turn around? How do we strafe? In fact, how to we even walk forwards???
Why are you in a wheelchair
That’s offensive. My wife is in a wheelchair, dick.
First they should just get kinect to track your head movement so you can play with the normal controller and have kinect track your head movement so you can look up and down, left and right while still moving in a different direction. Just like Trackir does for the pc. For future FPS I would like to see a machine gun controller with buttons on the barrel grip for moving forward and kinect to fully track your movements so you can look around and take cover by just ducking and the being able to peak around the corner by just leaning out.
I agree they should get Kinect to track head movement by making a headband with sensors built in, light gloves to easily recognize movements down to the fingertips, bands for elbows, and ankles to tell where your feet is. And one more on the hip so it has the major body parts. That way you can have the most precise movements. Some video goggles would be nice to as that would fix the turning around part. Resident Evil would be a great game for it.
Use the controller as normal but issue commands to npc’s via the kinect mic or hand signals and if you do the motion of throwing a grenade it does it on screen.
Or possibly even cooler a throwing knife for a stealth kill.
Form thumb and index finger into gun, PHEW! PHEW! PHEW!
Imagine doing the thumb and index finger but for a western style quick-draw.
They could use the voice to run, walk, crunch, etc… i dont know, thats possibility, but the glove idea sounds great. turning around part could be with a device in the floor where you can use it with your foot
Vise Versa, I can play FPS on my regular controller and maybe issue some commands like XBox browse to browse twitter on the internet and pause the game to eat my meal. And when I was energetic enough to stand then I can switch to kinect.
i recon they shud copy your movements ie run on spot walk crouch and ly down, and have a gun shaped controller with analog stick for looking around and button for zoom etc
For all those normal people reading this page:
I reckon they should copy your movements.
i.e. running on the spot, walking, crouching and lying down.
They should have a gun shaped controller with an analogue stick attached which would be used for looking around, with the inclusion of a button for a zoom command etc.
