PS3 may cost a less-unholy amount of money

Okay, maybe the Sony Playstation 3 won’t put you in the poorhouse. Gamesindustry.biz is saying that those comments that SCEA France was making were either misunderstood or mistranslated. So we may be seeing it at around $400 or maybe $500.

That’s still a little much for Metal Gear Solid 4, though. Come on, Kojima, give us a 360 version!

We’re gonna have a REVOLUTION, ooh.

Jumping between Smash Brothers and N3 later this year will be so much fun.

Kojima already said it would be possible, MGS4 Substance ftw!

They’re in a real pickle. Making it $400 is great for the consumer and the PS3 name, but it could go a long way towards putting Sony in the poorhouse, at least at first.

They’ll probably still lose money at $500, but at least they won’t be bleeding at the neck. Then again, it doesn’t bode well for their market competition.

I’m guessing they’ll start out at $500 and go down to $400 as soon as blue-ray is cheaper to produce.

I’m hoping for $400… i don’t see how they couldn’t.

@ Fetter

Because their financial position is not as good as MS has. Furthermore, Blue Ray drives have quit a high costprice compared to a normal DVD drive…

How do you know their financial situation is not as good as MS, out of interest?

“How do you know their financial situation is not as good as MS, out of interest?”

For starters Bill Gates has enough money to start his own small country and thats not counting the money his company has put away for buisness reasons.

Hmm yes, but I still think Sony have enough money to get away with selling the PS3 at a loss, IMHO I doubt it would make much difference to their figures, in the same way that it wouldn’t at MS

At $400, they’d be giving the PS3 away.

It isn’t going to cost $400, and probably not even $500.

The $600 to $700 figure sounds about right.

Ken is lying to everybody. Again. I really don’t see why anybody still trusts this guy.

Does no one else remeber that before the PS2 was released people were saying it couldnt come out for less than 600 dollars? Then it came out for 299? I think we will see a 400 dollar ps3, based on Sony’s past.

sony is allready in debt for making the ps3s in the first place they would cost around 800-1000 dollar to produce one since the “cell” technolegy is new to the industry sony is prolly going to put the price tag from im guessing 500-700 range

They simply wont charge that much because of the lack of sales theyl obviously get,its that simple, just wait another 85 days and youl find out

In a Sony press release they said that the sale of the PS3 will cut the company profits in half, because of the high manufacturing costs, for the first year until they get a solid base of people buying games and accesories
