Rumors: Microsoft trying to get GTA exclusive, Bungie working on Halo MMO

GTA Exclusive pretty please Rockstar?A member of the NeoGAF forums (formerly known as Gaming Age forums) was friendly enough to post an interesting excerpt from the latest edition of Game Informer. According to GI Bungie is actually doing a Halo MMO game, with the help of Ensemble Studios, called Project Orion. Wise choice. There’s more though.

They also confirm our suspicion that Forerunner was no April Fool’s joke (hi Louis Wu) and they are thus sticking by their story, in the May issue this time thank you very much. And if that wasn’t enough they also say that Microsoft is doing everything they can to get the exclusive rights to the Grand Theft Auto series. Makes sense.

-GI is standing by their April issue in which they revealed Forerunner. a new title in the Halo series. Now this month in their Loose Talk section, they reveal Project Orion. According to GI, Bungie and Ensemble Studios are teaming up to make a Halo FPS MMO. They claim this project is in “planning stages” just like Forerunner, so things could “change.”

-Microsoft is currently trying their hardest to secure the next version of GTA as an Xbox 360 exclusive. They claim MS is going full out in this. Even if MS does not secure it as a full exclusive, they will try to get it as a timed exclusive (similar to Sony last gen)

I can not stress enough that these are mere rumors taken from the ‘Loose Talk’ category from this month’s Game Informer and should not be taken as facts.

Thanks to Erzengel360 for submitting these juicy rumors.

Halo MMO will rock as long as I am charged no more than what I already pay for XBL.

Guys, please don’t count on a free Halo MMO as that will never happen.

It’ll probably cost 10 € a month or so, just like every big MMO out there.

If it’s true, it’s going to be huge, and they’re going to need lots of servers to keep our data running 24/7.

An MMO is not like games as GRAW where you start your own server, in an MMO, they’ve got to have huge servers running all the time, and those servers cost $$$, so we’ll have to pay.

I can’t imagine Microsoft forcing gamers to pay monthly for a Halo MMO. Having it as an exclusive for the 360 would increase console sales. However, if they do go with a monthly fee it would only deter from expanding their player base. In the end, that is Microsoft’s goal, the marketshare.

My thoughts:

A GTA exclusive would be huge. No more associating the the playstation brand with GTA.

Please, please, please, Bungie, Please make Halo 3. Not Halo forerunner or w/e. I just want a sequal.

I don’t care if there is a halo mmo, but please not in place of halo 3. I love the online small slayer and skirmish games. Look at your success. If it aint broken, don’t fix it.

Yeah, just stick with Halo 3!

MS has said that you can have access to MMOs even with a silver account. So, I think you’ll still have to pay the monthly fee on silver or gold. Maybe, just maybe, MS will allow free access to Halo MMO for gold accounts only. It is true that there is a reason to charge for MMO access. You are on their servers where they are hosting HUGE worlds. Plus, they tend to update the world and offer new stuff.

I thought GTA3 was the greatest thing ever when I first played it. My excitement quickly drained with Vice City and San Andreas. So, I’m hoping that GTA will truly be next gen on the 360. I know it doesn’t really matter what I think, because GTA:SA was still a huge seller. It would sell a lot of 360s if they got the exclusive.

I have the feeling that, if anything, they will just charge gold users less but we will still have to pay.

halo mmo wont work they have to make halo 3

A GTA exclusive?

Screw that.

Microsoft should just freakin’ buy all of Rockstar.

And a Halo MMO? Interesting, but only if it was a FPSMMO. And if it was free for Gold members. Free is good.

why would we want 2 FPS MMO, we already geting huxly :|

If I remember correctly, way back in the day when Bungie was working on Halo for the Mac, one of their original visions for the game was that of somthing similar to a MMO. And it sounded frickin’ awesome if they could pull it off. I just remember hearing that you could pick to be human or Covenant and then have free reign to battle over an entire halo. So you could literally drive/fly all the way around a halo and there would be battles being fought all over the place. So if they are thinking of bringing this idea back to life, I’m all for it.

yes I think the halo mmo would be great, but like what everyone else said, were already paying 50 bucks a year, thats to much right there, THe game needs to be free, if not, you already lost a good customer, and I bet a bunch more to. and about the GTA thing, what the other guy said, MS should just buy rockstar, they should have the money..!

Comment by pandarus on 2006-04-09 23:10:20 | Reply

no offense, but i don’t think that you can really consider $50 a year too expensive for live. the way i see it, it adds more life to my library of games than spending that same $50 for just one more game would. as for charging for an MMO, millions of people pay $10 or so per month to play their WOWs and whatnot, so it’s not as if MS would be forcing you to do anything that other companies out there already don’t.

About the GTA, i have PS2 but i do it for the games. If the xbox had thos games then I would have xbox. It’s simple.

Even though I really enjoy GTA, i thought it was a pity that they develop it for PS2, and then port to xbox.
The xbox has more memory compared to PS2, so this means that GTA vice sity could have more people/cars/scenery than it had. It could be a better game, and it would justify spend 120 euro on a xbox :P

Now, i would buy x360 for GTA if it’s as good as the other ones, but still it would have far more potential when it would be on more powerfull hardware.
As a fan of GTA, this i cannot deny.

The Halo MMO would be very shallow. It does not realy lend for a MMO, the FPS genre. And also the Halo universe is a little b-movie like, so it could be a total joke, i mean, come on, 100.000 milion players online at the same time, all dressed like the master chief :P
Come on! You gotta be kidding right?

Then again, it could be a nice game, but it would still be a joke to hope the halo fans are so hardcore that they rather be another master chief instead of some WOW character.

Ah, wait, i all MMO suck! :P

And it would be stupid to want GTA to be PS3 or X360 exclusive, because less people would be able to enjoy it.

A halo mmo would be great, and from what I read about Halo 3: Forerunner, that sounds amazing.

I would love to see Microsoft get exclusive rights to GTA. And would really like to see Microsoft buy Rockstar, just to put a damper on Sony’s parade.

Buying Rockstar might be a bad move because whoever bought the company would become the defendant in any lawsuits filed against Rockstar over Hot Coffee.

The GTA exclusive will not happen. They will lose way to many fans. All that money as soon as the game is available. To lose all of Sony’s people for a year to leave it on one system was a silly mistake to begin with anyways. I don’t see them repeating that. And no I’m not a Sony fanboy. Just speaking the truth.

Look microsoft has a good idea here cuz if you think about it what is the biggest seller for ps uh i think its gta so if they take that from sony it aint like sony can buy bungie cuz microsoft can literally outbid sony in any deal they want so gta an exclusive equals console seller for microsoft and then the new halo will be great it will spell success for microsoft and all of you worried about halo3 it will probly come out when the movie does so they are goin to release this to hold you off. and i would love to play a mmo halo that is wut i dream of i cant wait.

Paar Wochen Ferien einplanen… […]

You shouldn’t stick with a system just because of a name. If xbox360 has better games, go with that. If ps3 has better games, go with that. Anyone’s decision shouldn’t be any more deeper than that. Whether you think Microsoft is a money monster, or you think sony overhypes everything.

Go with the system who can walk the walk, and not just talk the talk.

Whether it is true or not, i don’t like the idea of Microsoft getting GTA exclusive. None of that. I love the GTA series, and I prefer playing on my PC. I don’t want to have to buy an xbox just to play my game.
