Kinect Will Not Launch With Voice Control [UPDATED]
Kinect will launch this coming November, but for those hoping to experience the use of voice controlled actions with the hardware on launch will be disappointed. Microsoft has confirmed that Voice Control and Kinect Video Chat will not be available.
Speaking at Gamescom, Marketing Manager for Xbox Live EMEA Robin Burrowes stated to MCV that “we will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course”. It was later confirmed that chat software Video Kinect will also not feature as part of the launch and as with Voice Control, it will be available at a later date.
Kinect will launch in the US on November 4th, 2010 and in the UK on November 10th, 2010.

UPDATE: Microsoft has issued the following statement to MCV.
“Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010. Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV Shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time.”
MCV is trying to clarify why conflicting information was given to us at Gamescom. Apologies for all the confusion.

What else will they remove before launch?
I am really disappointed by the news, and I think this will affect pre-orders. If another announcement is not made before launch about a definite date for switching on voice commands - then I’m cancelling.
Can’t believe anyone thought this rumor was true. Did you really think MS put four microphones in the Kinect sensor just for the fun of it? LOL.

This is definitely disappointing. The games still look intriguing to me, but I was really justifying the $150 by saying, “at least I can use it to video conference with family/friends and do voice controls.” Now, that justification is harder to validate. I sure hope it’s slated soon after launch, and doesn’t become vaporware.

Yes MCV have established the news is wrong now and we have updated the post here to reflect that.
Should you not bring out a new headline that !KINECT will indeed have voice chat at launch! rather than just adding a small update after all googlesearch will see the first headline (The wrong one) rather than the right one
No, because when they come here they will see that this news is repeat of what MCV stated earlier today and it’s been updated to show that they were told wrong information.

This is a major disappoint, people who have preordered Kinect aint gona b happy. why release it without voice control, just makes it pointless arghhh
