Xbox LIVE Voice-Chat Quality To Be Improved
Microsoft has confirmed that the quality of sound to your Xbox 360 Headsets will be significantly improved with the upcoming dashboard update this fall.

Xbox LIVE Studio Manager, Jerry Johnson at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival:
“The codec we used when we first launched was a low bit rate codec and we stuck with that,” Johnson explained.
“We launched and we said we required broadband. We required a 64k connection, which not many people think of as broadband any longer. But that was the minimum requirement to run the service at the time.
“It’s time for us to move on. Especially if we want to think about broadening - a crackly headset on the top of your head – not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment.”
The new dashboard update will be released to all Xbox 360 consoles connected to Xbox LIVE to coincide with the launch of Kinect on November 4th in the US and November 10th in the EU.

Sounds rad to me!
This is awesome news! Hopefully either games, or the dashboard will finally give us the ability to adjust voice-chat volume independant of music and sfx. I have so much trouble hearing people when my system is cranked and the sub is booming.
Good news!!!
Good news, but Im hating that date. For the EU, thats a day after BO. Not majorly bad or anything, just annoying since they normally take around 10min to download.
wow, mindless cursing now in higher bit rate. waste of an update
pointless
So this is why they knocked off “Halo 2″…
Alright!!!
