Blade Kitten is an upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade game based off of a comic-book of the same name by Krome Studios Co-Founder and million-selling game creator, Steve Stamatiadis. Within the game you play as Kit Ballard, a bounty hunter and one of the best in the business. Together with her alien sidekick Skiffy and her sword, the Darque Blade, she hunts down rogue mechs and soft targets. Kit becomes the nexus of a tumultuous series of events on the strange planetoid known as HOLLOW WISH.
Xboxic has interviewed Krome Studios, Steve Stamatiadis on all things ‘Blade Kitten’ and what we can expect when the game launches this Fall.
1: What inspired the creation of Blade Kitten, how was the idea for such a game born?
Blade Kitten is pulled from a stack of different ideas from unfinished projects and I put together the universe of Blade Kitten out of all my favorite things. Some of the ideas go back 15 years and at the time I never thought I was building this grand universe but when I channelled it all into Blade Kitten it just all fit together like this massive jigsaw puzzle that I could finally see the big picture for. From then on I knew I had to make a game or ten in this universe one day.
2: Were there any development frustrations or difficult situations hard to overcome?
The most difficult challenge was getting the gameâ€™s 3D physics system to play nicely with the 2D aspects of the game. Objects in 3D tend to want to stay in 3D and as a result tend to not go where you want them to go when you try to blow them up. In the end the programming and level design teams worked out a happy medium that makes the game work AND look cool.
3: The selling point - what is it that makes Blade Kitten special compared to other Xbox LIVE Arcade titles?
There is no platform game on XBLA like Blade Kitten. With its modern take on classic arcade gameplay, HD anime-styled graphics and high production values, it’s way beyond most of the standard XBLA games. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun to play.

4: Although it has been confirmed as a two-part mini series, will each release feature any separate DLC content?
We are hoping to have some news on DLC in the coming weeks.
5: How long do you think it would take an average gamer to complete Blade Kitten and after the main story is there anything to offer any replay value?
It will take a good few hours to get through the first episode but there’s another couple of hours needed to get 100% by finding all the bonus collectibles and unlocking all the costumes.
6: If the game becomes an Xbox LIVE Arcade success would you consider extending the series to more than 2 games or are you currently in the planning stages of other Xbox LIVE Arcade games yet unannounced?
There are plans for more potential game projects from expansion packs to spin off games with other characters set in the same universe.

7: Does the game include any Avatar Awards and/or have challenging Achievements that require high levels of determination?
There aren’t any avatar awards but there are a few achievements that will require some persistence and determination.
8: As a game developer, have you been tempted by Microsoft’s Kinect device and how you could use it to create something unique and entertaining?
Sure, but I can’t talk about it yet, it’s too cool.
