Call of Duty: Black Ops New Multiplayer Details

Last night, Treyarch held a global hands-on multiplayer press event in Los Angeles and at the same time completely revamped the website with a new look ‘Black Ops’ theme. During the event, new multiplayer features were previewed that had never been seen before in the history of the Call of Duty franchise!

The familiar Create A Class option is all set for a new revamp that will now enable players to further customise their own in-game character outfit depending on what Tier 1 perk options has been chosen. It will also be possible to change elements of your gun, and design your own in-game emblems that can be placed onto the weapon itself for showing off in multiplayer. In a similar style to the ‘Halo: Reach’ credits system, Call of Duty: Black Ops will now have its own in-game currency called “CP” which can be earned online to enable you to unlock weapons at set CP prices. It replaces the older XP system from other Call of Duty titles and can even be used to purchase new in-game challenges called Contracts where you will be further rewarded for kills, kill streaks and unique playing styles.

If you fancy a little flutter with your hard earned CP points, Treyarch has introduced four new multiplayer modes that will allow you to gamble your CP in a Wager Match. The top three players in a Wager Match will split the CP total that has been added to the pot, and if you lose, then you’ve shit out! and have to go back to other online modes to earn some more.

The four new multiplayer modes are:

One in the Chamber - Players will start with pistols only, one bullet, and three lives. If you kill someone you get a bullet.

Sticks and Stones - Players start with a crossbow, ballistic knife and a tomahawk. If a player is killed with a tomahawk they go bankrupt!

Gun Game - All players start with pistol, and every kill gives you a better weapon. First one to progress through the weapons wins. Players who get knifed will be reset a level.

Sharp Shooter - All players start with the same randomly selected weapon. Weapons cycle, but everyone has the same weapon.

Another new surprise for the Call of Duty franchise within ‘Black Ops’ is an offline multiplayer Bot-enabled mode called Combat Training, which has its own rank progression separate from the main multiplayer. Combat Training can be played solo or with friends and is to be used as a training ground before shooting the more experienced of players online in full multiplayer combat!

Finally, with an all new Theatre Mode, gamers can direct epic gameplay videos and create screenshots that can be shared online with other players. If you have built your hopes up for more details on Zombie gameplay or even word of a pre-release Beta - unfortunately neither was discussed during the event.

Call of Duty: Black Ops will be released worldwide on November 9th, 2010.

Credits system sounds good because u can buy the weapon you want.

And “gambling” modes are great for those who have nothing to lose. ;)

Great game coming november..

The new multiplayer modes sound very fun!

All sounds fun, but I just can’t get away from the fact that CoD is just a twitchy shooter.

Come to the end of corrider, turn left die, turn right live.

No skill, no teamwork just 50/50 chances.

I’ll stick to BF.

No teamwork? Maybe who you play with on COD. You won’t win any objective matches without teamwork. BO is looking better and better.

I disagree on both points.

To be a consistently good player on MW2 most certainly does require skill. Accuracy, map knowledge and tactics all require skill that will give you a far better than 50% chance of winning. I also agree with w0rms about the objective team games.

I can’t wait (as always every year) - but sounds like Black Ops has learnt from Halo…

I wonder how many cheaters will get caught on the new Theatre Mode?
