‘Huge’ Saints Row demo confirmed

In an interview with Msxboxworld, Jacques Hennequet of Volition confirmed a very large demo for their upcoming game Saints Row. He also explains some of the basics of this Grant Theft Auto clone. The game is still set for September this year.

Although a demo was never officially announced are you still planning on releasing one via the marketplace or otherwise before the game ships?
Absolutely. Stay tuned for the date and the contents. It will be a very large demo.

How many weapons will be available in the game and will these include melee weapons as well?
About twenty. Yes, we have several melee weapons.

Will there be multiple ways players can attempt to tackle missions within the game?
There are always different ways you can win any mission, but the bulk of the choices are more about what you do to unlock the missions than within the missions themselves.

In total how many story and sub missions are you aiming for? What kind of replay value can gamers expect from Saints Row?
There are thirty six missions and thirteen activities. Each activity has eight levels of difficulty. We think there will be a lot of replay value in the game as you can approach it differently, try to max out your scores, unlock all achievements etc…

Yeah niggah, aaight

I wonder what ‘very large’ actually means.

That you won’t have to spend 60 bucks on the full game anymore ;)

10 inches

Summer time, I’m guessing.

I don’t know if i want this game anymore. It looks oke, but not superb. Especially they need to optimize the framerate.

Hellz Yea daddy likes huge downloads!!!

And we need a GTA clone why? ….

Because GTA imho looks like crap and we can desperately use a better contender if they match the gameplay and atmosphere.

because rockstar likes to release games on the shitty systems before the good ones!

So why can’t somebody make a free roaming game with hookers, drugs and shooting without it being a GTA Clone? Why don’t you say the same about Just Cause? That’s a free roam with guns. Seriously why dont you call Counter strike source cloned by Prey? They are both FPS…

The same questions as why we need more FPS, Halo clones, more racing games, well you just stick then with a console and 1 game in every genre. I would like to have some choice, even if the idea behind games are comparable. Even better, it would rock if Saints Row would kick GTA’s butt big time. It’s just time for a new king in town

yeah it would be funny for all future sandbox type games were called “saints row ripoffs”

instead of gta ripoffs

I like the fact there is clones, other wise we will be stuck with Halo for FPS, GTA for action/free roaming and Resident Evil/Silent Hill for Survival horror.

Doesnt 36 missions seem like nothing compaired to Oblivion, the game seems short. And only 20 weapons? Come on, even that is low and seems limited. I hope this game turns out good, its all going to be about the how good the multiplayer is.

The question is ofcourse what constitutes a “mission”. If missions are of the type “go there and shoot Sonny” 36 will be a breeze yeah, but if one mission is to “take over this neighbourhood by performing these 75 subtasks” it’d be way beyond Oblivion.

Oblivion isn’t a fair comparison though, it’s an RPG which is ofcourse a different genre.
