XDU: Beaten the record alright!
Sydney, 14:15 local - Just returned from Coogee Beach, and don’t have too much time to type as we’re to leave again at 3, but I do want to share that ‘we’ did beat the world record and Australia is now semi-officially the world record holder of largest water balloon fight ever (official when Guinness offices in the UK confirm).
So what was it like to be standing in the middle of over 3000 people slinging like 50-frigging-thousand water balloons at eachother? Have a look:
This was completely frigging awesome. Took a while to set up, but when hell broke loose it went loose completely. The idea was simple: to be an official world record attempt there had to be 2 teams, separated by 10 metres that they weren’t allowed to cross, and so considering it’s a publicity stunt anyway Microsoft had decided to line them all up as the Xbox 360 logo, which we saw being drawn in the sand yesterday by a bunch of guys using GPS positioning. The one team had green shirts and formed ‘Xbox’, the other team with grey shirts formed ‘360′. Watch the photos to see what we’re talking about:
As you can also see a huge amount of Australians showed up on this bright and sunny Saterday to defend their country’s honor. Microsoft being the Microsoft that we know with its deep deep pockets forked out huge on this event, with cars and promotion everywhere, and the event was being broadcasted live on national TV and radio stations. They’d even brought in Kameo and Joanna Dark in for the promotion:

Well, Microsoft always had a soft spot for showing off a bit (does anyone remember them buying a Stones-song for their Windows 95-presentation), and this event seems to be no exception to that rule.
