XDU: Custom gamerpics will be possible

Sydney, far too late local time - You may have noticed Xboxic is in Sydney, Australia to cover the succesful world record attempt at water balloon throwing, Censored contentbut ofcourse when guys like Major Nelson are there you tend to pick up some interesting tidbits of other news here and there as well. On the way to the restaurant today we were discussing the possibility of uploading custom gamer pictures to your gamercard and whether it could be done.

Larry said they have “found a solution that everybody will like”. The discussion immediately ensued about how to do this and whether this means we will be getting configurable options like “Click here if you want to see testicles in your friendslist” but we didn’t get more solid info from him. He did say they could ofcourse technically do it but the main issues are indeed simply about parental control and how you would avoid that the Xbox.com forums would soon only be filled to the brim with hard porn on every page. He just reconfirmed that they have thought up a solution that will please most people.

Nothing official, no dates or anything, but hey considering the source you could consider it quite reliable.

k00l better start finding some k00l pics to use for my gamercard :P LOL

The old pictures really are getting old, besides that they say nothing more than the fact that you’re trying to stand out with an image that isn’t been used by your whole friedlist… And what’s up with that having to buy 80×80 pictures?
I say bring on that custom possibility!

Seems to me the solution is rather obvious: For a price (say, 50 Microsoft Points), you send your desired gamerpic to Microsoft, they screen it for being OK (not obscene or anything), and if it’s OK, they post it to your profile. This way, you can have the gamerpic you want, and it doesn’t cost Microsoft a ton of labor trying to screen out endless requests.

My thoughts exactly.

my thougts exactly too. I’m guessing 300-600 gamerpoints. I think they’ll want to make a little more cash.

Yeah, pretty what I wasthinking, but not 300 points, thats a bit harsh, but you know - 100?

It’s not as if there is 3 guys at ms that have to choose between making games and adding features to the dash. No offense, but that’s an ignorant comment.

I really hope they can do something to allow us more customization… Everyone on the “inside” keeps saying that there is gonna be some big changes to the dash very soon (during e3 or after I’d imagine).

As I stated in my other post Background Downloading is confirmed to be working and should be out “soonish” at least. Major could not say whether this included a good queuing mechanism since he’d only seen it work on LAN where downloads went too fast to have a chance to queue them :)

why dont they strike a deal up with gamertag pics ,as all the pictures are screened there anyway

I’d take this newspost’s picture as my Gamerpic, plz.

The concept of exactly what all I could use as my gamerpic makes me exceedingly happy.

The other problem arises when your gamergard is visible on other websites by adding a piece of code. I’ve seen gamercards all over the place in non gaming forums, blogs,….

When they do allow custom pics, I think I’ll upload something TOTALLY original like… a headshot of one of the characters from G.R.A.W… or maybe… A panda.. or… :-\

I’d get a Moogle. I’d be the only person with one! :o

thats the most stupid thing I ever heard.. Homw come all these websites like gamertagpics, myspace, ect can control there pics, but microsoft cant control then, all they have to do is put an upload feature on there website, I feel its about them not getting paid from this, cause then not as many people will be buying there little pic packs.

MySpace does not control their pics. If porn is used on the site, it is live and anyone can see it until they report it and MySpace staff removes it themselves. I see plenty of nudity (or semi-nude) photos.

They will try to make money out of anything these damn microsoft people, let me see, 50 a yr for live, over 10 bucks for a little acrade game you can play for free on yahoo, and paying for little pics that take them not effort to make, it concerns me…..

They will try to make money out of anything these damn microsoft people, let me see,

Exactly what do you mean with “trying to make money out of everything”, I didn’t mention money or whatever in this article? Also, how do you mean “charging for gamerpics that didn’t take time to make”… you think those pictures materialize out of themselves spontaneously? Someone is making them, and he is getting 20 cents per download. Well, yeah he must be getting big-ass rich from it!

no effort I meant at the end there…:-)

Japanese gamers, they get all the good gamerpictures and they’re lucky too. I have a few Japanese gamers on myt friends list I met them on PDZ and do you guys know Ninety-Nine-Nights is already out in JAPAN? because there’s a Japanese friend on my friends list already playing it and he has about 6 achievements for that game already it’s awesome.

sounds like a good idea but how many pervs are gonna use naked girls or something for little kids to see.

Hopefully none.

Obviously part of the service would be to screen proposed gamerpics to make sure they’re appropriate for all audiences.

I think that if the parental control is ON on my console then i’ll see your pic if only it bought from marketplace, else if the parental control is OFF on my console then i’ll see your pic also if it didn’t buy from marketplace.

This is already technically possible, you see their is a way to connect your HDD to USB and then download a .GamerPicture file to your PC via Explorer360 (Xplorer360) if someone just made a tool to compress/Decompress them then you’d have no problem, theirs already one for themes.

You do realize you’re responding to a 9 month old newspost? ;)

Cool%21..+Nice+work…
