E3 2006: Halo 3 announcement

Normally we summarise all the trailers in our weekly trailertrash, but this is an exception. A Halo 3 trailer is now available on your marketplace and is 104.42MB in size. You’ll also find a picture pack and a theme which you’ll have to pay for unfortunately. Aah, isn’t the E3 good to us.
Update: the Marketplace is nearly unreachable, Bungie has a download and some info up.

According to the description on the marketplace the Covenant are after Africa. Somehow they found some Forerunner stuff in there which they want to claim. We’ll probably cover more of Halo 3 in our press conference post which should be up this evening.

Halo 3 trailer cap

The official Bungie announcement begins with some nice sarcasm:

Bungie announces Halo 3, the third and final game in the Halo Trilogy. Halo 3 will be released for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in 2007.

The game was revealed to the world at the Microsoft press conference at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, in Hollywood, CA. By the time you read this, the announcement trailer should be available for download on bungie.net and directly to your Xbox 360, in full HD glory from Xbox Live Marketplace. Read no further if you want to avoid spoilers.

Nobody saw it coming. Halo 3! Who knew? For the last year or two, people have speculated about what our next project was and surprisingly, in all that time, not a single person guessed that it would be Halo 3. Not one.

We declare it the best kept secret ever.

Seriously though, it’s been a chore biting our tongues on this one. Call it a combination of studio secrecy, corporate secrecy, Bill Gates already announcing it four times and, you know, whatever.

What you see in the trailer is completely rendered in real-time! It looks great, and they promised to keep all the effects (and more) in the final version. It’s the mystery about the demo we really like, you see the chief, a desert environment and a bunch of airplanes flying over. Nothing more, nothing less. No multiplayer, AI or anything else. But that doesn’t matter at the moment. It’s there, and it looks really great, we’ll get more updates in the future about these kind of things.

Bungie promises to bring updates recent updates on their website, Bungie.net and so do we.

Thanks to all the people who’ve submitted this news.

I would get the piccy pack, but every Halo fanboy on the planet is gonna have that as their picture soon, so I won’t bother.

Um, I know this is a recurring theme in these demo/trailer threads, but… mine’s stopped?!

Looks like mine has too, though I can’t be sure. It’s either stopped or going very slowly… 28%….

I’ve cancelled after still being stuck at 33%. While everyone’s fighting over that file, I’ll download Gears Of War, Forza, Viva Pinata and Too Human in the same space of time :p

MS are CANING Sony and Nintendo at their press conference … UNO and Halo onto MarketPlace during a press conference just rules

Definitely caning Sony, not so sure about Nintendo, though - theirs was pretty damned cool…

Seeing as this is where the E3 news is…

It’s just been announced that GTA4 will be a 360 exclusive!! Released on Oct 16th. With downloadable content.

Guess the Table Tennis game was a deal sweetener ;)

The Eurogamer one is saying GTA4 is October 2007? I hope that’s a typo…

I’ve seen the 2007 date in three places! :(

Comment by Studley on 2006-05-09 20:38:16 | Reply

Eurogamer also says GTA is on 360 “from day one”, which makes it sound like a simultaneous launch with PS3. Huuuuuge typo from Gamespot if that’s true.

OMG.. what a friggin TEASE!!! Damn you BUNGIE!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN TEASE? HAVE YOU SEEN THE VIDEO YET?

THIS IS GONNA BE THE LONGEST 30 MINS OF MY LIFE, BUT YET I CAN WATCH MICROSOFT’S PRESENTATION AT E3 WHILE I WAIT, BLISS….

Yeah, tell us about the trailer, anyone who’s seen it, what’s in it? Gameplay? Rendered?

I’ve seen the trailer, and wow, this is amazing. The music is enough to send shivvers down your spine.

Um who cares? I’m sick of FPS’s already. FF13 was the best looking game so far at E3. Let see some god damn footage of Lost Oddessy!!!!!

So why are you reading this thread if you don’t care about Halo 3 news?

FF13 was a good movie… but then again Finding Nemo looks pretty sweet also… lets stick with in-game footage…

The camera fades in from white, with a chord from a piano.. then a jumbled static transmission, while the camera pans across a burning wasteland (earth)… You hear the transmission again, then the camera swings around to show Chief, in all his glory… Then you hear the transmission is Cortana… Chief looks rough, with his battle rifle… then the camera pans out to show Covenant ships flying in over head to a buried artifact exposed in the Earth’s crust… the music builds to the closing screen, and COrtana’s voice “This is how the world ends”

Bungie has assured everyone that the footage is all Game engine running on the 360.. and it looks fuckin awesome…

The whole of the interweb is now litterally setting on fire, Halo 3 news is everywhere.

I’ve felt some sort of aura of awesome emitting from my 360 and computer today. Uno, Wii press conference, H3 trailer, et cetera et cetera…

Wow, I just watched it. Very satisfying and just makes me want to go play Halo 2 now.

You know what IS awesome… THAT RAD NEW INNOVATIVE NON-VIBRATING PS3 Dual Shock (oh wait no more shock…lol) controller

Ugh, the haters are out in full force.

Yep.

I just creamed my pants.

when will companies learn that FPS’s NEED to be running at 60 fps??!?!?? looking past that, this trailer looks pretty cool, not all that i was hoping for though.

60FPS should be mandatory for everything, I agree.
