Xbox Live Arcade’s top selling games

After IGN enlightened us on what gamers most wanted to see on Xbox Live Arcade they now also post the official list of best selling games on XBLA.

The full list is:

  1. Geometry Wars total chaosGeometry Wars: Retro Evolved
  2. Gauntlet
  3. Smash TV
  4. Bejeweled II
  5. Zuma
  6. Bankshot Billiards 2
  7. Outpost Kaloki
  8. Mutant Storm Reloaded
  9. Joust
  10. Wik: Fable of Souls

Besides a deserved first place for Geometry Wars ofcourse, it is notable that second and third place are taken by ancient coin-op classics. What happened to gamers wanting fresh and new games to play? On the subject of price points IGN regrettably predicts XBLA games will sell at higher prices in the future:

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the list is the popularity of Bankshot Billiards 2. At a cost of 1200 Microsoft Points, the Xbox Live’s lone sports game (if you can call it that) ranks as the most expensive title available. For those unfamiliar with the conversion rate, 1200 Microsoft Points translates to $15 real dollars (80 MPs / $1). With Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting set to release in March, the success of Bankshot Billiards 2 is evidence that we’ll likely see higher prices as games with much higher profiles are released on the XBLA. That statement, of course, is pure speculation, but it’s starting to look like the direction things are headed.

Let us all hope they are wrong this time, and that the next installment of GW will still be 400 points only.
