Xbox 360 HDMI cable out soonish?

It seems the guys at Lik-Sang accidentally revealed something Microsoft was still trying to remain hidden. In their online store we find an entry for an “Xbox 360 HDMI Cable (Microsoft)”. Nothing official has been said so far by Microsoft, but would a large online webshop like Lik-Sang screw up on this?

Image coming soon?No images provided yet, but the production description seems to make it authentic enough:

Showcase stunning Xbox 360 high-definition graphics with the component connection on your HDTV. Play high-quality audio with the included stereo connection or use the optical audio port for digital sound.

# Official Microsoft Xbox 360 Component HDAV Cable
# High-definition gaming output
# Progressive-scan DVD playback
# Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound output
# Superior quality image output
# For NextGen Television sets offering HDMI input slots

The reference to ‘component’ in that first line is a typo I assume… we can at least safely assume now HDMI is coming for the 360 relatively soonish, something that Sony isn’t offering on their $500 Core package although they’ve been claiming for months they would.

Would be nice to have the option for an HDMI cable. Hopefully they price the thing reasonable. The reason I have’nt been using HDMI on my TV is because the damn cable’s are ridiculously expensive. I refuse to pay 100 bucks for 10 foot of cable.

You’re looking at the wrong place if you’re finding $100 HDMI cables. Look at amazon.com. There are very cheap ones on there. The big thing is that the signal is digital. So, you don’t need a crazy expensive Monster cable.

20% of the equipment price should be spent on cables. i got 3 monster cable scarts equalling £180 in the back of me tv and a £45 coaxial digital cable.
you pay for the quality bud

Sucker! Digital cables offer no quality difference whatsoever. If you are buying analog cables, then yes, there are quality differences.

Digital signal is either there, or its not. If you had signal loss, then you would see pixelation or complete loss of picture. Absolutely no difference in quality. Buy the cheapest digital cables you can find.

Monster cables do benefit when you’re talking about an analog signal. When you’re talking about a digital signal, it’s just bits. Either the TV gets the bits or it doesn’t. Granted, a super piece of crap cable might not send a signal at all. A $20 cable that gets the signal there is fine.

Analog signals have to deal with interference. The higher quality the wire and the better shielding will yield a better signal. Digital signals aren’t impacted in the same way.

I spent big money on Monster cables for analog stuff. I then spent $20 on an HDMI cable.

If its a digital cable there is no “LOSS” in quality, its 1’s & 0’s, NOT analogue! So save ya money, dont pay for over priced digital cables!

HDMI cable for the 360 would be great.

If its a digital cable there is no “LOSS” in quality, its 1’s & 0’s, NOT analogue! So save ya money, dont pay for over priced digital cables!

And how did you think the 0’s and 1’s were transmitted? Indeed, by discrete currents where a threshold defines whether the value is a 0 or 1. So digital cables can still fuck up your signal, just like analog, it’s just less likely. But the need for high-quality cables is still there.

Even optical cables can lose signal if the fibre is not of highest quality. The fact that something is digital does not by definition mean that it’s lossless.

With digital, you either get the signal or you don’t. If you don’t, the image is pixelated and the audio would skip. If you buy a $1 HDMI cable, it would probably be such a piece of crap, it would screw up the picture. I spent $20 on one and there is no quality issue.

I hope this HDMI cable for the 360 doesn’t cost more than $50 or is included with the HD DVD drive.

This item has been on this site since the 360 launched…and no new info has appeared. I would very much like a HDMI cable but I wonder how much better it will really be compared to VGA on a good LCD screen. There must be some sort of issue as microsoft themselves would have been outputting through HDMI at E3 to make the best picture possible. This did not happen….can the 360 even do this at all?

FINALLY. This took way too long. c

Also, Monster Cable is over priced crap. Cables are cables.

Monster Cables are indeed crap but cables are definitely not cables…

I don’t have HD tv, and don’t know that much about it, but what’s the difference between an HDMI cable and the cable that comes with the 360 with the HD option attached?

The Component cable is analog, HDMI is digital. So expect better signal.

Realistically, you won’t be seeing the difference probably ;)

Well I was thinking about picking up the new Samsung CRT HD TV, seeing as at £450 it’s much closer to my price range (with a little saving) than an LCD one, and the picture quality should be as good if not better.

I’ve been advised to hold off until Philips launch theirs in the UK in September, hopefully sparking a price war.

As it is, I feed my 360 through my PC monitor via a KVM switch. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than my normal tv.

You should reconsider buying that TV, it has horible geometry errors in the corners and the picture quality isn’t that great. Your money wouldn’t be well spent unfortunately.

I just got a 57 inch DLP HDTV. I have my 360 connected through the OEM component video cable using 1080i, and it looks insanely good. How much better can i expect it to look in 1080p if they do in fact release an HDMI cable.

Comment by Tr1gg3R on 2006-05-15 15:37:51 | Reply

Now they only need to release a DVI cable :D

I would love to have a DVI cable for both my TV and TFT.

HDMI sucks.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not impugning its video and audio capabilities. It’s certainly nice to be able to make ONE connection between a TV and an external device, like a cable box.

But HDMI is the vehicle by which the movie companies are inflicting HDCP on us. HDCP sucks for several reasons, not the least of which is that those of us who do NOT have HDMI ports on our TVs may find our ability to watch movie discs in hi-def severely impaired. For that reason alone, I am pretty against HDMI and all it represents/allows.

(Not to mention, HDMI cables are EXPENSIVE. And I’ve heard from the tech support guy at Runco that a lot of HDMI devices will not properly handshake with each other… which pretty much leaves you dead in the water if you run into that problem.)

HDMI doesn’t suck. I can seriously tell you that if you connected something through hd component cables and then connected it through HDMI you would see a 100% difference in your picture quality. I brought and hdtv about a week ago and after suffering for 2 days with a poor picture decided to use the HDMI cables and the difference left me in awe, it was worth the investment to pay for the HDMI cable.

HDMI is a single connector that allows for HD Video and multichannel audio to be sent through 1 cable. It’s basically has the video quality of DVI-D but it’s coupled w/ multichannel sound and supports the new HDCP (HD Content Protection) standard for Blu-ray and HD-DVD players (incl. PS3 and Xbox 360 w/ HD-DVD Player). HDMI-HDCP is required for HD movies that have the ICT (Image Constraint BS) flag checked.

it’s about time, I’ve been wanting one of these since launch.

I bought a GE HDMI cables for $10 at a discount store. I normally use component cables…but needed HDMI for my up-converting DVD player. I was skeptical…but figured I’d return it if it didn’t work out.

Works GREAT!

THAT CABLE HAS BEEN ON THERE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. ASK THEM HOW LONG AGO THEY POSTED THAT ON THE SITE. MAYBE LIKE 6 MONTHS AGO. SORRY TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE GUYS. IM ANXIOUS FOR THE CABLE TOO. JUST DIDNT WANT YOU GUYS TO GET YOUR HOPES UP OVER NOTHING.

I thought that the Xbox 360 was technically incapable of having an HDMI out… it just wasn’t built for that? That’s what I thought though, and there hasn’t been any official evidence to convince me otherwise, but I sure hope I’m wrong! HDMI Cables would be great! :)

… oh and it’s not “bashing” to state a fact.

905 previous examples prove we can, and this potshot was just too easy ;)

Seriously, Sony screwed up on their HDMI, and I like to rub that in just as much as I like kicking MS when they screw up.

The best cable at the moment is a monster cable vga, it’s got the best result on printing the signal to your tv/pc-screen. It’s even a little better than the MS vga cable, so if you want best of the best, this is a must have item.

I did a search on Froogle for Xbox 360 HDMI Cable, and I got a price of 44.90 at LikSang.com. 45.00 is a good enough price for connection from 360 to my Sony TVs HDMI slot, which is currently EMPTY. If this is the price it is half the cost I have seen for a standard 10′ HDMI cable with male HDMI connectors on both ends. **I cannot wait to buy this** WOOT!

Don’t be fooled. Something tells me that this will be requird with the HD-DVD add-on. Sounds like Microsoft will be doing the same capatablity bullshit that Sony is doing.

Comment by Eric on 2006-05-16 03:22:42 | Reply

If you only have DVI good fucking luck. The best HDMI to DVI coverter is $300. You could buy a cheap one for $100 but good luck holding your current resolution.

If ms is a little decent they will at least include this cable with the hdddvd package

This is rubbish. HDMI carries a digital audio signal and they’re describing something that outputs stereo audio or digital through optical. Sounds like they’re actually talking about the component cables through that whole description. Besides that, the Xbox 360’s A/V output only supports analog video, so quit dreaming. This also invalidates the cheap shot against Sony’s $500 SKU.
