Halo 3 menu screen? [Updated]

Apparently, this Halo3 screen was shown at the bungie.net forums. Please keep in mind that when the shot was leaked, it was quickly pulled and bannings were handed out for everyone who responded to the thread. Do not talk about this in the bungie.net forums or you too will probably be banned.

Gamerandy.com had this to say:

…apparently this shot showed up on the Bungie.net forums and was quickly pulled with bannings for everyone who replied to the thread. Real or Fake? Who knows… But its fun to speculate :)

Here it is:

Halo3screen?

We aren’t sure if it’s real or not, so we’ll keep this as a rumor for now. We are sure that it’s fun to talk about.

Update: Bungie responded to the screens. They were fake.

Interesting that bungie uses CRT TV that is not even HD, I had the same one.

Isnt that the standard Samsung HD-TV that MS uses everywhere to promote the 360?

lol yes

Comment by lynX on 2006-05-16 12:02:58 | Reply

yeah, doesnt look like a crt to me.

Comment by pandarus on 2006-05-16 13:39:13 | Reply

actually, that could be the sammy slim-fit crt, too. that’s the tv i have in my living room, and i believe it’s the exact same.

It’s def. a crt. you can see the horizontal lines and the rounding of the screen. besides, i’ve never seen an lcd or plasma with a glass, shiny surface ;)

I’d guess fake, although that doesn’t really explain why people were banned?

Can the 360 even do system link?

Yeah it can, most of my games support it (GRAW for instance)

Comment by lynX on 2006-05-16 12:03:52 | Reply

lol, do you have an xbox360? it definately supports syslink, would be quite moronic if it wouldn’t, since xbox systemlink was very, very popular

It looks real enough. But wtf is “Classic mode”?

Dunno, maybe the standard mode is some special online co-op mode and the classic mode isn’t?

Comment by Number13 on 2006-05-16 12:07:09 | Reply

From looking at it again, that almost seems to be a sub-menu for “Campaign” mode, which leads me to think it’s offering ways to play that.

So I assume classic mode is single-player.

No, it’s not a sub menu, it just looks like the upper most option fades to the top, maybe in a rotating style. This just looks like the main menu

The original Halo with achievements and online!

…please, God?

Bit harsh, banning people for simply replying in the thread!

You can see press Y for friens, doesn’t the guide button handle this?

The guide button brings up the guide, maybe this buttons just brings up the friends that are currently playing Halo 3? Or shows you a list of servers they’re on?

Comment by todd on 2006-05-16 13:32:03 | Reply

plus the guide you have to go down and into it a little more… kinda a pain if you want to pop it out really quick to see if anyone is online with your game. ahh who knows and we are way far away from the date to really care this much? Heck, I played 2 for a while and go sick of it fast, I’m sure 3 will be the same. I’m looking forward to SC:DA instead.

If you check a lot of games, E.G: PGR3, there is a quick way to check your friends. I think it’s just for convenience.

Bungie has been really good in keeping this off the radar. Got to give them that! Makes the wait even more nailbiteing…

it looks like if Halo 3 would have came out for regular xbox(Y button friends)..and I think campaign would be the single player campaign, not classic.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62)

That’s probably our lovely watermarker :P

Most certainly is :)

hehe.. can you open the original picture in notepad.. look at the first line..

let me know

Wow…Pretty. I bet classic mode is an unlockable version of Halo 1, or it will be something. Maybe this is a 3rd person game now, or some other type of game (but I doubt they are that stupid) I am very curious about this “Classic Mode”, this looks authentic.

it’s either real or a good fake

someone could made this image and then loaded it on it x360 and made a picture of it… what’s up with halo classic, the first halo or halo ce?

Comment by todd on 2006-05-16 14:00:02 | Reply

ha ya look nothing is even slightly different from the first pict to the second. You’d think those rings would be rotating or something moving not stagnet. Why would they even have a menu this early when it isn’t even due out for another 8-10 months or more.

Comment by NavyStorm PR on 2006-05-16 13:56:00 | Reply

I’m thinking classic mode might be like Halo 3 with Halo1 gameplay

Why take pictures of the menu? Why not take pictures of playing the game in single-player or multiplayer?

Comment by aries on 2006-05-16 14:52:16 | Reply

because that is probably the only time who ever took the pic was alone. u think if they were playtesting and alot of people were around they let him out if they saw him take a pic? no way. t was probably setting idle and he snuck and took a pic. if its true that is.

Here is the link to the official samsung web site you can see by the picture that they are the same http://av.samsung.de/arti...76-4D69-9C74-D0611B9FCB38

and here is the link to the only samsung HDTV which is CRT that looks close like the one on the picture but is not http://av.samsung.de/arti...02-4856-80A9-96D04FFFA4C8.

Also thie picture is in the campaign menu, you could see right above the xbox live it says campaign and it looks like its not selectable because you are allready in there, so you have to chose which mode you would like to play (this might mean that you could play co-op with 8 people via xbox live which was an initial idea for halo 2) i remamber them saying something along this lines “imagine playing with 8 friends the campaign mode and there is room full with covenants and some of you shoots the light and you start a massacre in there” this looks so much more as an halo 3 statement becase now there is the single light source thing they were braging about that could make that initial idea possible.

You know what, I think you’re on to something…

Comment by Joel on 2006-05-16 17:10:43 | Reply

Ya, there was a lot of stuff they had to leave out of halo 2 because of the deadline. Hopefully the include this stuff in this one.

8 player co-op?!?!?! that would be awesome.

GRAW also has 16-player coop? So not that special :)

hmmm…Something about that 3 in the right-hand top corner…looks funny to me…I’m guessing fake…if they had taken more time it might be more convincing.

Man. Gotta love Bungie and their Banhammer of Justice.

Comment by todd on 2006-05-16 18:14:07 | Reply

It’s soooo fake, two picts and it looks like nothings changed in the menu (ie the halos [background cirlces], selections) expressing no movement… comon why would they even have a menu at this point when it isn’t even due out for another 8-10 months ha

http://www.bungie.net/For...posts.aspx?postID=6961750
Read that it kinda says to me there fake.
“There’s a lot of jerks out there that are going to try to get attention by faking “leaked Halo 3 information.” A good example would be that “leaked” Halo 3 start menu that people are fruitlessly freaking out about as I write this.”
Its only a menu anyway… :S

Wow, he seems pissed off.

It’s fake. So says Frankie

Bungie.net

It’s quite probably fake, as we state just as honestly as Gamer Andy.

But I wouldn’t take anyone at Bungie’s word for it. They’ve got such a strict NDA that they’d gladly call a leaked fully playable beta build fake if they had to.

Comment by Joel on 2006-05-16 21:18:16 | Reply

Maybe Classic mode is a enhanced version of Marathon?

If someone as advanced as that person could make that good of a fake, don’t you think they would’ve thought to make different screens? I don’t really care what Frankie says, of course they’ll deny something as quickly as possible.

Comment by longsword_337 on 2006-05-16 22:47:32 | Reply

lol, its fake. the reason bungie pulled it, is cuz it technically illegal to create ‘civil unrest’ by making these spoofs.

that, or its taken of a real work in prog., and they didnt want too much leaked.

but, it goes w/o saying that H3 is amazing.

Who cares about the screen itself, it’s all about the sound baby! That Halo Sound makes me wet my pants at night (in a good way)

[…] Yeah, looks like I might be back to talking about Halo all the time again. Item 1: Seen this? Yeah, I know that its fake and you know its fake, but fankids everywhere had a good ol’ time the past few days claiming it was a real leaked photo of the Halo 3 menu screen. So don’t bother sending that link around because it won’t earn you friends. Item 2: More Graphic Nover Goodness! USA Today published an article today (in the USA) about that forthcoming comic companion to everyone’s favorite xbox launch title. Bungie was kind enough to offer a link to said article, and also published questions and quotes that got editied out of the printed version. Oh yeah, they also uploaded some rather good art. The comic promises to show how Johnson (pictured) survived the Flood of Halo 1, because he wasn’t on the boat with Chief and Cortana at the ending. […]
