Crysis going nextgen?

The guys from Team Xbox pointed us towards the Crytek job openings page. On this page there’s an opening for someone who can Maintain (optimization, adding new features) the existing CryENGINE 2 graphics system and assist in porting the source code from PC platform to the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3). Based on these facts we can assume a game with the Crytek 2 engine will be available on the next generation systems. But this doesn’t necessarily mean this will be Crysis although it’s very likely.

Requirements

  • Maintain (optimization, adding new features) the existing CryENGINE 2 graphics system.
  • Assist in porting the source code from PC platform to the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).
  • Assist in design of the graphics system and/or the animation system for the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).
  • Develop and maintain the graphics system and/or the animation system for the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).
  • Develop well designed software within project schedule to team standards as directed by Lead Programmer.
    Document source code.
  • Continue to enhance programming and communications skills.
  • Actively participate in team working on project by making recommendations on how to improve product quality as well as group productivity.
  • Provide input to department project status meetings.
  • Directly responsible for adhering to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by manager with accountability and responsibility defined prior to the commencement of these duties.
  • Develop and participate in the creation of a TDD with supervision.
  • Coordinate with other studio groups including art and production to achieve project objectives.
  • Assist in the specifics of programming architecture.
  • Assist in the development and inclusion of new technologies.

Pluses:

  • C# knowledge
  • Experience in the game industry

Responsibilities:

  • Develop tools and plug-ins for a high profile game
  • Report to Lead Programmer, Producer and Technical Director
  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner and to a consistent high quality standard

I can’t stress enough this is not an official announcement, but only a rumor based on the job openings page. Crysis is coming to the PC somewhere late 2006.

what happened to the multiplayer geometry wars story?? i just saw it a few hours ago

It was removed, turned out the ESRB notice was always there in the US since it’s mandatory over there.

the job description says “maintain” the existing engine, not destroy it, so im hoping they will stick to that.

What is Xenon? I see PS3, but no 360. So does Xenon = 360?

Yeah, that’s the old code name for it. Others were, Xbox 2 and “an even bigger brick.”

Brick…TO THE MAX

Who cares if Crysis goes to console. By the time it does, the PC will have 10x the Crysis quality graphics games out than consoles and Crysis will have mods, maps, etc etc going for it. Crysis is a PC baby, not a console baby.

Not all of us have a $2300 PC. :)

You can get a great gaming PC for $1k if you build your own. The majority of consolers don’t care though.

..but then you need to download these drivers and install this upgrade, oh wait, you’re gonna need to adjust your memory settings, oops you graphics card isn’t supported. Better get new one (don’t forget the drivers) oh, and don’t run any other applications at the same time…
hehe

Also, with a $1k pc, you won’t have all of your sliders at max. I’m not sure how you can build the pc you’re talking about when the graphics cards alone are at least $6-700.(To run at its full potential.) Still, even if it was only $1,000 that’s still $600 more dollars than my lovely Xbox 360.

I don’t want to start a PC and Console war. It’s just that there’s too many people that try to look at it as black and white, when there’s too many factors and variables to do so.
