I sold my xbox and every game I hadfor it along with all 4 controlers. With the trade in value i bought a 360 for -£70, yes it didn’t cost me a thing and I still had £70 to spend on true next gen titles like COD2 and then I got a hold of fight night which is clearly next gen nutter. Fair enough there could be a bit more titles on offer but they are begining to build up with quality and at the end of the day I would rather have quality than quantity (like Sony’s huge catalouge with a good portion being about as enjoyable as sandpaper underwear).

But I have meandered of the point, which was I got rid of the lot and feel better for it, if you want to live in the past playing old titles then keep the old machine but don’t moan incesently like a little bitch cos you can’t play crappy retro titles you mug, just go out and buy a new game. But fair enough you have been lied to, whatever. We will see how you feel about companies lying when you buy your overpriced overhyped george forman lean mean grilling machine look-a-likey console the PS3. Which I might add the only next gen titles that have been shown for were not even run or produced on the PS3 but through a Hi-end PC.

Most major titles are working and if you really want to keep playing your old games, just keep the freaking old xbox. Second hand stuff won’t sell easy anymore since the old xbox and ps2 also have a very very low price new in shops.

So go get a XBOX 1 for 79 Euro’s at MediaMarkt in The Netherlands for example and at the same time buy a 360 when you’re there!

I think that is only a 1080p READY tv which processes the signal down to 1080i or 720p.

Real 1080p HD TV’s are around and over 3.500 dollars/Euro’s at least.

Furthermore, expect the PS3 to just upgrade a 720p signal to 1080p because the GPU which is a 7900 Nvidia thing can’t really cope more then 24 FPS @ 1080p with 4096 colors. That would only be Tetris then in real 1080p. If you buy a next gen console to play old games, you do something wrong.

So only Gears of War and Too Human would be a game for you? You don’t play games that are out yet? Like PGR3, GRAW, Oblivion, FNR3 and other real good next gen stuff? Strange is that as a 360 owner…

If you actually understood any of the gubings in the two machines you would be aware that the “actual” deliverable power of the PS3 is much the same as the 360, but it costs a stupid amount of money and chances are you will run in to much the same problems (more powerful machines = more things that can go wrong). So enjoy you PS3 with its carbon copy of Xbox Live (which having done a little investigation on is not looking very competitive at all).

wow, i just gotta comment.

the point is not whether these bc games are worth playing, the fact is we were TOLD by M$ that every effort would be made to put all original xbox games on the bc list. it was a major selling point for the console. i admire moore’s ball’s for claiming they have satisfied their end of the bargain, but i believe they should be chopped off and fed to some hungry corporate dogs somewhere for the same reason. i think the phrase:

“we under promised and over delivered,”

is enough to convict that pompous prick.

i will say this again, backwards compatibility was used as a huge selling point. under promised my ass. you would not read a tech sheet on the 360 without hearing about how eventually all titles SHOULD be backwards compatible. now if he was saying that none of the remaining titles can be emulated, fine, whatever, but to say they have basically already put too many man hours into it is a move usually relagated to american politicians. this is a bad move and will cost xbox a lot of friends especially with the approach of the ps3 launch.

Not to play Devil’s Advocate, but I will. One of the biggest problem the Windows OS has is that it carries the code from all previous versions slowing it down, and as well carrying various flaws to carry over the support from former versions. With the next-gen platforms moving closer towards PC functionality, I think Microsoft saw this, and tried to address the problem with something that didn’t have such a huge following.

Also, “Eric” above proves my point. He’ll sell most of his games and stay with “two” good ones. While I agree that a lot of the games on the BC list don’t reflect a lot of user playlist (I wanna play Test Drive: Unlimited Offroad on my 360 so bad..), it’s effectively taken care of most gamer issues.

It can also be said (like above) that MS is trying to push its consumers into looking ahead into the “next-gen”, so that MS can focus its efforts almost entirely on its future(and current) projects.

And yes, I very much believe that Microsoft is having a lot of trouble emulating games than they originally thought. (Halo CE has a seriously buggy emulation)

First off, there are really good affordable 1080p HDTV’s out there. The Westinghouse has an awsome 37″ with 1080p on the DVI1 input. The 42″ has 1080p on a HDMI input. At $1500 the 37″ is about the best buy on the market today. The whole backwards capadable thing is pretty fucking important. It’s kind of funny accually, I may end up buying a PS3 because of it. God of War2 look’s great and FF12 I must simply have, now lets say I do buy a PS3 for $600. I bet I can sell my PS2 with 15 games for maybe $200. Well that drops the price for upgrading to about $400 and I can still play the 2 PS2 games I want. I do remember buying my 360 for $400, hhmm, and there just happens to be only 2 games I want till Christmass, Gears and Too Human. Strange. Backwards compatability may be the one nich in Microsofts armor.

These sorry games just happened to work for them. I highly doubt that they went out of their way to make these work over games like Battlefront

Like I said, I have the 360 and have been disappointed with empty promises. They say this will be out today and it doesn’t show up for weeks. They promise that will be out and it doesn’t show up. They promise updates to the BC, there has really only been two. The first update was the only real one. The PS3 hasn’t even been released, so I can’t complain about it. I can only complain about what is in my possession. It is easy to see that both Sony and MS have PR problems. They speak before they can back it up.
Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying the heck out of the 360’s next gen games. But the ones that are truely good are few and far between. That is when I want to pop in an old game. I can’t stand playing them on the old xbox anymore.

Now I know for sure, you own a PS2 and are just up to throw in some nonsense.

The games are next-gen. Just because most of the games in this form are simply not possible on the previous consoles. Not on the old XBOX and for sure not on the crappy PS2.

Try to run a game like

PGR3

Oblivion

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Fight Night Round 3

etc etc on the last gen consoles. You simply couldn’t pull that off for sure! Compare FNR3 on the last gen and this gen and you’ll see the difference. For sure that old xbox games mostly were in 480p where 360 games are always in 720p HD resolution.

It’s now it’s here. The only thing is that ofcourse launch titles don’t use the capacity full. Remember the launch games for PS2 they s*ck big time. Furthermore the newer games also compared graphically to the XBOX but allright.

Now go and get yourself a wank over the PS3 because it’s all bull

Actually, from what I’ve read, the PS3 is emulating the PS1/2 in software, just like the 360 is doing with the XBox. Sony does, however, “own the silicon” as the article states, so they may be able to do a better job. But it is still emulated, and there will still be issues with it. Don’t expect 100% of your PS1 and PS2 games to play 100% correctly on the PS3.

You are correct that 100% won’t work. The PS2 had a short list that didn’t work. That would put it at around 95%. Still way better then the 360’s attemp. I also am still waiting for a few title to work, but mostly waiting in vain.

but you’re right, there’s not enough INTERESTING bc games, nevertheless I’m happy to be able to play splinter cell chaos theory and halo2 on my 360..

I guess it’s all about how much money needs to be invested per game…

I really don’t have a problem with the lack of BC….what I do have a problem with is the choice of games that have BC. Only about 10-20% are actually top notch games, IMO. A lot of crap on the BC list that nobody ever plays made it over titles such as: Panzer Dragoon Orta, Chronicles Of Riddick, Psychonauts, Soul Calibur 2, Brothers In Arms, Oddworld: Strangers Wrath, Mercenaries, Beyond Good And Evil, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Deus Ex, Psi-Ops, X-Men Legends 1 & 2, Freedom Fighters, Otogi, etc.

I mean they got Barbie games, Circus Maximus, Drake, and crap like that….

But they’re missing some of the top notch titles? They said the best titles for the system would be available for BC. Doesn’t really look like it to me. I’m one that had to throw away my non-working Xbox when I got a 360, and I’d like to play some of these games. Oh well, guess I’ll have to go out and buy another Xbox.

If you expect to see insane particle, futuristic design and “crysis” look games then you are going to be “putt-off” then. I think we have just tap into graphics on both the 360 and PS3. Your concept of Next-gen graphics are way high and if that’s your concept then you have all the right to complain. But, don’t expect to see “all-mighty” graphics this year or even half of next year (according to your expectations). Your definition of next-gen could be different then most of us that agree that we are seeing next-gen games and we are comparing it to past-consoles. And of course some of us don’t care much of how “pretty” graphics looks as much as game play and new innovations of either game play or peripherals. Is on the eye of the beholder I guess. But to say that your concept of next-gen are not much better then prior consoles then you have invested poorly and who’s fault was it? (Do research). But, if you feel that you were misguided then your have all the right to your opinion. As of myself I was never misguided and felt that my investment was well deliver on microsoft promises past and future for that matter.

Well I’ll agree that the 360 has plenty of power that hasn’t been exploited yet (but it never is with the first cycle of releases for a console) but the likes of Gears Of War aren’t far off.

Oblivion is FAR better than any Xbox RPG.

And I’m not sure what you’re using as your definition of “next-gen”, but the platform itself is definitely ahead of the game, the Live service in itself is pretty much a revolution in how we experience games.

There are two scenarios here:

First, if you are a “Brand New” console gamer and you are investing in a “new-gen” console then you should be able to look at BC games and make a decision as to what games you are into. If the games that interest you are not available on BC then you SHOULD NOT buy A 360. Just buy a XBOX1! But, truely who’s fault is it? YOU OR Microsoft? (always do a research)

If you are gamer then you know which games you are into and if BC games are not your cup of tea then most likely you already bought a 360. Games coming up on the 360 are enough to hold you for upcoming months. I am pretty sure there are one or two games you would like to be BC but that’s not enough to hold you off in not buying new games or new console.

I am with Microsoft that “for me” they have done enough to “satisfy” most gamers.

Also, to Crunchy if there are no “New-gen” games outthere then I waisted my money and my 200-hour of play with games that outthere. I am so ashame to waisted all those arcade games, new demos, new live features and waisted all this time playing GRAW, Oblivion, Table-Tenis, Condenmed, NBA2k7, PGR3, Lost-planet Demo, Test-drive Demo, ALL arcade games, etc..etc. All this time I was thinking i was playing next-gen games but I was not…shame on me…LOL

Links 2004 is the only other one that I’d like another crack at. Or was it 2003? I can’t remember but it’s the only decent golf game I’ve ever played. Unless you count Mario Golf on the GBA.
